We arrived in Riobamba for the start of the Devils Nose Train ride, only to find the train doesnt run from there at the minute as they are repairing a section of the track, so we had to get up at 6 to take a 2hour bus journey to catch the train from Alausi. After leaving Banos at 7am we were on the bus for about an hour when we were woken, again, by a loud bang. This time the driver did stop as smoke filled the bus! We all jumped out to find that the back tyre had burst and was now on fire! The driver pulled out a poxy little fire extinguisher which stopped the fire for all of 2 seconds. Me and Sean went into Water Action Stations and preceeded to pour as much water as we could get our hands on onto the flaming tyre...

We left Canoa and our crazy Dutch friend Patrick behind, along with Sarah who had left the day before us (she should have stayed), but we got to take our new American best friends with us! left Quito and our bat cave on sunday and took an 8 hr bus journey, through the most amazing terrain ive ever seen. We arrived finally at the hostel after 24hours travelling, the most enjoyable parts being queuing at American customs and then queuing even longer at Ecuadorian customs!
