On to Uyuni, and one of the things we´d been looking forward to most in the trip, the Salt Flats.
Uyuni is tiny, you could walk the whole thing in about 20mins lol, so after booking ourselves onto a 3day tour, we did the only thing you could do in Uyuni.........drink cerveza and eat pizza!
Day 1 thankfully didnt start until 10.30, meaning we got the last chance of a lie in! First we went to a train graveyard, which has been around since the time of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, who were killed nearby. Then onto the Salt Flats where we found out about how the salt is collected and transported, before spending the next few hours taking photos with props, and generally messing around! In what is a crazy landscape! The Salt Lake is 200 square metres, and at its salts thickest 130m. Also we explored an island which is almost in the middle of the salt lake, covered in Cactu. Some crazy Israeli guys decided it would be a good idea to try and take naked photos on the salt flats, where everyone could see! We stayed overnight in a Salt Hotel, everything is made completely from salt! Where we got one of the best rooms we´ve had in the trip!
Day 2 started slightly earlier at 7.30, we spent the second day visiting a volcano, lagoons full of wild flamingo´s and the famous rock tree! Landscapes out of Salvador Dahli painting.
Day 3 was a too early start, 4.30!!!! But we went up to the highest point of 5000m where we saw bubbling mud, which had temperatures of over 200 degrees due to the nearby volcano. There were also hot gases blowing up through holes in the ground, which you could run and jump through! A great way to warm up, although you did smell a bit eggy after! It was then onto a hot spring, lovely to just sit and relax in, and worth getting up early for.
A great 3day trip, 1 of the best we´ve been on, and so much more than just the Salt Flats that you hear about.
