It was a bit of a difficult day, it was a long day, getting my visa extension sorted and packing for the biggest day of the project, visiting the school and meeting the teachers and the children. I was feeling a bit homesick as well, it was like I wanted something familiar as everything was so different and it was overwhelming.
But anyway after getting the visa sorted, I went to visit Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, with two other volunteers, Lien and Patrick. It was beautiful, and quirky, in a way. Different to anything I have seen, I saw some monks as well and I also saw an elephant; she was laying in a shallow pool, and a man was rubbing her with a coconut shell, which elephants enjoy, apparently. The temple was small but beautiful, colourful and peaceful. It was also filled with gifts, such as watches or bracelets which were presented by devotees and well-wishers over the years.
After the temple, we went for a wander around Colombo and decided to go on the pedalling swan thingy. Patrick haggled with the prices, which was funny to witness. But we managed to go down from 300 rupees to 195 rupees. Then we got stuck on the lake, the pedalling boat's fin got tangled up with a piece of rope, we tried to fix it but the fin was too deep into the lake. So, we just stayed there, floating and eventually the man in the charge realised what was happening, and came to the rescue. It was funny. We also stopped for a cup of tea, Sri Lanka style! And it was gorgeous. YUM! We chilled out for a bit, chatting and taking pictures then decided to go back to the homestay to get things sorted for the next day, as I have said, the big day!
Right now, I am just trying to pack but not sure where to start! Waiting for the clothes to dry, and cleaning the room. I am excited about tomorrow but of course, I am feeling a bit *gulps* naturally, I just hope it will go well and the school will like me! Hah! But yeah, that's it for today :)
Good night. Xxx
