Hi everyone,
After a long flight home from New Zealand and a manic week at home trying to get everything packed and spending some quality time with my family I am now in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
Francesca and I flew into Nairobi after an 8 hour flight from Heathrow and spent a few days there at a place called the Wildebeest Camp- a really lovely hostel. If anyone is travelling through Nairobi at anypoint soon it is a great place to stay. We had a bit of a nosy around the city which is noisy and polluted but I instantly liked it. I was expecting it to be really westernised and it was much like Accra- a large sprawled out village with a really cool mixture of traditional and modern. We moved on from Nairobi after a day so we could get to our placement, though we will return before coming home. We only went out in the day and it really didn't seem to live up to its reputation of being really dangerous; everyone was really friendly.
Yesterday we spent 12 hours on a bus from Nairobi to Kampala. The bus was an interesting ride- luckily we had seatbelts which stopped us banging our heads when the bus hit the potholes in the road and we bounced upwards! It was hilarious the first time; after 12 hours it wore thin. We also ended up so dirty from all the dust that I have permanently ingrained dirt marks where my flip flops are. At least it looks like tan lines! We arrived in Kampala to busy traffic at 8pm and stayed in a hostel last night.
I really like Kampala; the city is built on hills and it is really green and lush. Today we move on to our placement in Lukaya at Good Shpeherd Childcare Centre so by the next time I write I should have settled in. It is so nice to be back in Africa!
Hope everyone is well at home
