Dear all,
This is the method I have chosen for keeping up to date with everyone whilst I am away in foreign parts- mostly because it connects up to facebook so I know it will be less effort for all of you and it saves me trying to get email addresses! Also the nice people at off exploring can make everything into a book at the end which will save me feeling guilty about not keeping a diary as I have struggled with it before!
I only have one more week here in New Zealand before returning home for a few days and I can't believe how quickly the time has gone. It has been wonderful though; i've really enjoyed myself. I am working at a Juice Bar to occupy myself whilst Alistair is in the sky and it is a really nice place to work. I spend my time making smoothies and frozen joghurt and being told that people can't understand my accent. The girls I work with are all really great so i'll be sad to finish.
Mostly though it has been great to spend some quality time with Alistair, especially as most of it has been in fantastic places. I am already looking forward to returning later in life to see the South Island as we have been based on the North Island. We have close to exhausted the scenery up here and I feel like I have got a real sense of New Zealand. My favourite trip was down to Ruapehu where we went up the mountain to look over 'Mount Doom' and then I attempted toboganning for the first time. I am about as good at tobogganing as walking in a straight line. We have also hiked up many waterfalls (tiring but worth the view), jetboating (fun), the beach, lots of smelly thermal places (smelly), the Coromandel (beautiful), Auckland (growing on me) and Hobbiton (surprisingly rubbish). This added to White Island (awesome active volcano), Raglan and blackwater rafting at Waitomo Caves (wetsuits are not attractive) which I saw with Al in April.
The glamorous parts have been interspersed with a lot of mooching aroung in Al's room, baking cakes, ironing and being uber domesticated, going out in Hamilton (got to love Bar 101 and Agenda) watching Prison Break (emotional), refreshing the schedule (to find out when Al is flying) and messing around with Al's friends here who are all lovely. Al and I have also spent many an hour lying in, going for morning runs and having hot chocolates in the afternoon. It has been bliss!
Al has successfully managed to pass his Commercial Pilot's Licence while I have been here as well which made me very happy and proud- only about 30 more tests to go before he can get a job!
I hope everyone at home is safe and well. Take care and send me general life updates please!
Until next time when I will have just arrived in Africa...
