Ok I had to check where id left off last, which was waiting for a bus in Ubud for KUta on Janec's terrible day. Let me first confirm that Janec had his photo memory card b*****ed at the last place so we had to buy a new one in Kuta but we are being fairly cautious about the type of establishment that we use from now on. So no photos today Sorry!
Ok Kuta, driving into it im going to be honest looked like any other beach resort big clubs, ripcurl, starbucks, Pizza Hut and Macdonalds. We arrived at our Hotel/hostel, which was very cheap but similar to a prison cell in size and decor, but they did fold the towels in pretty shapes. It was here that we found out a continental breakfast here consists of toast, tea and some fruit. They also managed to require four people to clean our room, now firstly iI cant figure out why there wasnt that much room and secondly Im not sure how they all got in there. One of the guys did always come fairly late in proceedings, maybe he was the towel artist. Our toilet also did not work all that well and you did not get a sink but the main toilets were faily close by so we used them.
Now first evening we walked down the main street which is full of shops selling cheap and tacky souvenirs, t shirts, flip flops and sarongs. There was also various restaurants, one of which had a HUGE menu outside, now it was just a blown up version of the menu in the restaurant with huge writing; now Im not sure if there is a huge problem with visually impaired people or if they fell a giant menu with giant pages you can turn would attract the drunks. We ate in a reassonable place and went home walking down the other side of the main street, here there was a Macdonalds with Ronald outside on a surfboard, Pizza Hut and The Hard Rock Hotel which was attracting the usual swarm of Japenese tourists.
The next two days Im gonna be honest we spent the majority of our time on the beaches. It was wicked! I got a an incy wincy bit sunburnt. We shopped a little I got some new sandles after a quicksand like event in socah beach. One of the nights we ate in the food market which was amazing the food was good and cheap but it was mainly the entertainment of watching all the guys and girls vieing for the business of whoever walked into the ares. Literally shouting them from a pace of 100 yards. On our last night we ate at a place called Uncle Chans which was cool, It was all very bright colours and good food all at one price. A bit like asian tapas I suppose.
Our coach and boat to Lembongan was unenventful, except we had to wade from beach to boat so got a bit wet. Now the island was serene, the sea was so clear it was amazing. Our hotel Puri Nusa was nice. Again we spent the first day on the beach and looking in the rockpools when they appeared. It was a place of two landscapes; during the day it was crystal clear waters with golden beaches and then at about 3pm the tide went out dramatically and you could see all the seaweed racks which second to tourism was the main area of business on the island. On the first night we ate in a place called Linda's which was amazing and did fabulous seafood. The second day we went to the Mangroves met a fab Indonesian, Janaru, who gave us a tour of the mangroved by boat then offered us snorkelling for free. We went, this being my first time. It was amazing and I want to do it again. We saw all the classics on the coral.
The next day was a journey back to Bali, we went to the Perama office as we had booked tickets 4 days earlier when we had first arrived in Kuta., Perama office was closed for the local silent day. Now there is a National Silent day, part of the Hinsu calender when Bali airprt is closed as well, but this was just a local one. Perama decided to close the boats and office two days ago. Now there are so many types of these days in the Hinsu calender and there held variously on a national, local, villlage and family basis. So you cant keep up, tomorrow will be avacado day or something but only on the bus i want to get on. THe Perama guy swapped a tickets so we could get the fast boat as that was still running. The fast boat was not fun, the sea was choppy and one point one of the engines flooded and to get off was more then a paddle.
WE arrived at our hotel in Sanur looking like we had swam, the woman must have wondered what she was letting stay.
Anyhows we're off to get food. and then bed its been a really early start and waiting around for hours tires you out. By the way we are noe in Sanur, nicknames snore, fairly peaceful beachtown. We havent quite resolved our future plans but at some point we need to get back to Java.
Happy Avacodo Day on the Number 32 to Denpersar.
Lots of Love
Ruth and Janec.
PS: Go Mum!!
Tip of the Day: Fast boat sucks, swimming, hiring tortoises or the slow boat are better ways to go.
