Met the Masaii Tribe today.. Casual..
I remember learning about this tribe in year 9 Geography!
I was really excited to meet a tribe. Theres something cool about meeting a tribe. Well actually, i'm really interested in anthropology and I wonder why I didn't study that at uni sometimes so I was excited.
They performed a dance for us and we got to dance with them. I was laughing thw whole way through because it was so strange. Fun but strange. I don't think you can quite appreciate how bizarre it is until you are there. I can't even explain really.
Moving on, we were given a tour of the Masaii homes which were made out of cow dung and surprisingly didn't smell! It's a womans job to build the homes. What a role reversal. I was offered some cows blood and they were quite shocked when I declined as it 'is good for the bones' but I just couldn't. They even said they'd boil it for me but the thought made my stomach run away so I declined.
Naturally, after all the tours and questions I threw at them they tried to sell us some jewellry with Mzungu tax added on. I managed to get a reasonable Mzungu tax price for a few necklaces and then we went back to the truck to travel to Daar.
Just as we were about to pull off, the tribe asked for a lift to a football match with another tribe. It was so bizarre. About 15 Masaii's piled onto our truck and I was in fits of laughter. It was so strange, especially when one Masaii attempted to read my book. We dropped them off at the next village and under there very pretty clothes I noticed a pair of Man U socks on all of the players. Westernisation even makes it's way to the tribes..
Next stop Zanzibar!
