I havn't been able to post for a while because Rwanda has little access to internet so I thought i'd incorporate the parks I have visited. Well a whistle stop tour anyway.
I love Ngorogoro crater. It is a massive crater and home to all of the animals you expect to see in Africa apart from giraffes as they can't get into the crater.
It is amazing. I saw every animal up close. Zebras, the rare black rhino, lions and elephant. I felt like a real tourist popping my head out of a roof with a pair of binoculars. I'm not one to appreciate scenery much but this was breathtaking. The plains seemed neverending and it was simply beautiful. I also saw a lion feasting on some giant animal (lord knows what it was but i did it's insides being dragged apart). It's pretty amazing to see the animal kingdom in the natural surroundings. No zoo will ever compare.
Nogorogoro was an amazing day but it didn't start well. We definitely had a half soaked driver and on the top of this massive crater forgot to put his breaks on when he got out of the car. Naturally we were all excited when I said 'are we moving'. I thought I was a little car sick due to the crazy roads but we were! We all started screaming and I decided to try and escape by banging my suncream bottle on reinforced glass.. nice move Maz. We were literally a metre from rolling off the edge to my fate of being lions dinner until a few Masaiis trying to sell pretty jewellry stopped the car by finding some huge rock and putting it by the tyre. I have no idea where this rock came from. I mean it's not something you really keep in your bag but I felt obliged to pay 'Mzungu tax' and buy some jewellry been as his rock saved us. We were so close to the edge that our driver had to climb in the window.
The Serengeti was also an experience. Much bigger with more terrain, animal spotting takes alot longer but it's very exciting when you see one. Here is where I was greeted by a wild pig when I was trying to use the toilet. I mean it makes a change from the whole African community coming to watch you pee in a bush when you stop on drive days but I definitely forgot all the rules of staying still and looking scary if you encounter an animal. I screamed so loud, that giant pig ran off hawking. oops
I also flicked through my camera which is a new one I had to buy due to my other being stolen. I have way too many videos of hippos pooping and spraying it everywhere.. Easily amused..
