Sadie and Steve's (not Steve and Sadie's) travel b
Hey, well we're counting down the last few hours to our time in India, so thought i'd try and write another journal entry before we fly out to Thailand, one in two months is a bit lame. I'l try not to ramble on too much though as we've want to try and fit in quite a lot before flying out tomorrow.
Don't really know where to start, have done quite a lot since the last entry. Finished volunteering about a week ago, was quite strange to think i'l never see those kids ever again, and how cute they are when they do the okey kokey. Been pretty busy over the weekends. Got the chance to go to a Hindi wedding which was really great. Steve brought some traditional Hindi get-up for the occassion, can't remember the name of it, but it was basically a long tunic style top with lots of over the top hand embroidery, he was the only one there wearing that kind of thing, so he looked a bit out of place, but steve seemed to like the attention it got. I'l try and put the photos on as soon as poss, so you can all have a laugh at them. They then kept trying to make us dance, I think the only reason we got invited was so that they could laugh at the funny white people dancing. We've picked up a few Punjabi moves though, and in exchange we taught the moves to Saturday night and the fast food song(McDonalds, McDonalds, Kentucky fried chicken and a pizza hut) which by the way they thought was a beautiful dance. The girls that invited us then asked for an invite to mine and steve's wedding 'i come to your wedding, what is the date' it was quite difficult to explain to them that we haven't actually arranged to get married, they found it even harder to understand that our parents didn't even know the date for our wedding.
One weekend we went to town called Manali, its futher north so its a lot greener and actually has rivers that aren't all dried up, which is nice. We got the chance to go white water rafting, was a lot of fun. Another weekend we had a planned excursion to Amrisar. We found a resturant that did ok tasting western style food, where we ate three times in two days. On Saturday evening we went to the India/Pakistan border to watch the changing of the guards, a really surreal experience, crowds and crowds of Indians chearing and dancing as the try and get a rise out of the Pakistanni's on the other side of the gate. We also went to the golden temple, the main Sikh temple in India, really impressive and had a really peaceful atmosphere, with a lake in the middle where people were bathing.
This weekend was the final count down, we made a mammouth journey to Agra. Apparently it was about 47.5C, i'v no idea if thats right or not but it felt pretty damm hot. Agra of course if the home of the Taj Mahal, couldn't come to India without seeing it, was really impressive, but somehow was expecting a bit more maybe after hearing so much about how beautiful it is, still good to see though. We were given a guide though who was a bit of a pain up the bum and then demanded a tip off us even though we didn't want him.
And then that brings us back to Delhi, which is where we are now, its slightly cooler than Agra, but still pretty sweaty (i've never seen Steve this sweaty before, not even that time in the union). Went to an amazing resturant last night, an Italian, and today we went to McDonalds, I can honestly say I don't think i've ever enjoyed a McDonalds so much, it was great. So we're trying to see as much as we can in the couple of days we've got here (with out having to run around and collapsing from heat exhaustion). Just been to the Red Fort, which was a bit pants really, so if you ever go to Delhi I wouldn't rush to go there. Next we're probably going to check out the Museum of Modern Art, should be interesting, and fingers crossed it'l have air conditioning!
Ok, guess that's it for India, hope everything is hunkey dorey back in England. I just asked Steve if he has anything to say he said 'we're saying next to the grenadan embassy' bit of useful information for you! Bye for now!
