Goodmorning from Italy!
TRAVELLING TIP SUMMARY
#1: Travelling 300km/hr is the only way to see the countryside if you have a short time like we do. You get to your destination a little quicker for the slightly more expensive ticket, but you can see more of the landscape as you go through. It was perfect for us!
#2: If you plan on going to Milan, you could do a quick stop by in a day and move along to the next town
#3: Try the pizza and gelato in Italy!
#4: Bring a hat and sunscreen. LOTS OF WATER. Its hot here!
We've had a fantastic few days so far exploring Italy. We started off with almost missing our train to Milan! When trying to return the hire car back to the airport in Nice, we drove around in circles because we couldn't find the place! A solid 20min drive of Terminal 2 to discover they were in Terminal 1........ So now with only 30min to get onto our train, we ran to the closest station with the next train able to connect us up with our Milan train 1min before it departed. Anxious we weren't going to make that, Ash realised that the train we were about to get on was the same train we would be taking if we were at Nice Riquier (pronounce "niece rickay") station! You could imagine our relief!
Train ride was beautiful! The country side is amazing! Then on the otherside is the Mediterranean Sea! The train travelled right on the waters edge. Crystal blue waters that had all the locals and tourists out by the beach. Umbrellas up everywhere and beach volleyball happening. Wishing we were at the beach! It's that hot here!
We arrived in Milan at around 9:30pm, a little lost and having people try to help us buy train tickets but we're pretty sure they were trying to take our cash or something, so we used card and they guy was telling us our tickets were "no good, no good. Use this one [machine]" Ashton: "it's good." while fighting for the guy to let go of the swinging flap so we could get our tickets out.
We stayed a nice little hostel known as the Music Hotel. Only downside was no aircon so the night was quite warm. The little fan did the job, but it was just that little bit too warm. Our bed sunk in the middle so we did not sleep well at all. The next day I began to fill a little ill. We walked around Milan all day, but there really is not that much there because everything is pretty much closed on a Monday...... and it was Monday. We saw the 3rd largest catherdral in Europe (or the world, can't remember). That was cool! Ashton could go in but I was inappropriately dressed. No short shorts, mini skirt, singlets or low tops allowed. Well. Being 28C there, of course I was in shorts and a singlet haha! So Ash went in and I waited outside.
We went to where the painting of the Last Supper was, but that museum was closed. We enjoyed looking throughout the streets, but there is not that many shops open around. A very small town.
I was feeling pretty bad by the end of the day, so we called it early and went back to the hostel. I ended up with a fever and a very sore throat. Ashton called in home delivery and we ate authentic Italian made pizza. Have to have REAL pizza right? This and the kebab with free delivery was 6 Euro! I couldn't very much but it tasted good!
Just as we were about to go to bed, we heard a CRACKING sound and thought we broke the bed. When we lifted the mattress, we found all the slats half in and out! No wonder the bed felt horrible. So Ash fixed that as well as their fan, which made our sleep a lot better than the first. That's Ashton for you!
The next morning, we headed to the train station after eating left over pizza for breakfast at around 7:30am. We caught business class to the Florence, with some guy in his business suit staring at us in our tourist clothes. I stared right back at him.
Next stop! Florence!
