Hope you are all well...Ok so here is an update on what i have been doing since i arrived in Chatham. For the first couple of weeks i dint do real much. I have had a good look around the city which is a bit smaller than Launceston. Its about 2 hours from Toronto and 1 hour from Detroit, and in between lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Its really flat in Chatham and surrounding araes for about 100km, its like all the paddocks have been lasor levelled, there are no hills at all here.
I have had some small day trips to Winsor, near the USA border, you can see Detroit over the River. Also we went to Rondeau reserve on LAke Erie, it has beaches that are really popular in the summer and has a number of shacks, bit like Weymouth i guess. Its also a popular hunting area for duck and deer.
As a christmas tradition here we went to a christmas tree farm to cut our christmas tree. Its a bit of a festival in pine plantations. Its mainly for the kids, with animals and rides and stuff but not too commercial. You get to go and pick out a tree and cut it down and they wrap it up for you to take hom for the house. These guys must be making a killing on these trees. It was a fun day.
On the snow front there has been very little snow in this area of the country so far. There have been some small snow falls, like half and inch which coated the houses and looked really nice but it only lasted a couple of days. It also looks like i will miss out on a white christmas. It looks so great when we did have snow and all the old houses are decorated with christmas lights and decorations, bit like in the movies.
I have had a couple of weeks working at Lisa's dads work. Its a butchery and i have been making some burger patties and sausages which has helped pass the time and provide me with a little Pat Cash. Its a really early start, 4am so i have to go to the Kip Shop around 2 for a couple of hours.
Last weekend we went to Niagara Falls. This place is pretty awesome, the falls are massive and there are numerous photos opportunities. Horseshoe Falls, Americans Falls and the Whirlpool were unreal. We stayed pretty close to the falls in an area which is more like a theme park with rides and dodgyhaunted houses, wax museums etc which detracts a little from the beauty of the place, its a little too commercial. We went up Skylon Tower and also went to the Niagara Bird Kingdom. We caught up with Gibbo and a Canadian mate Bill who he is staying with and got on the gas. It turned into a really big night, surprise surprise which was really fun and we had the Ashes victory to celebrate.
That pretty much brings you up to date. Would like to wish everyone a marry christmas and healthy, safe and fabulous new year. Get travelling. Would love to hear from you all and tell me whats going on, and i will write back pretty well straight away so get to it.
Keep Dusting,
Rock
