Right here goes - Our first few weeks in India!
The Adventure Begins
Well we got off to a far from smoth start with Ross's train from Shrewsbury being delayed due to a fatality on the line, apareently smethik is a popular suicide spot, maybe not much of a surpise there then. Fo after waiting at the station for 2 hours without phones, having a mild panic attack and missing our train to London, Ross's train finally got in and we made our way to Heathrow, actualy managing to be one of the first to check in. everything will be alright in the end!!
Delhi Delerium
As you have heard on the news, Delhi was every bit as chaotic as you can imagine. Wires hanging all over the place, buildings half demolited and hundreds upon hundreds of people working day and night to get sorted.
From the aireport we experiecned our first time on an Indian highway! Give way? Indication? Three lanes? oh no no no. Driving in the these parts consists of weaving in and out of traffic beeping your horn every couple of miuntes. I don't think drivers here realise they have a reverse gear, its forwards into any (the smallest you can imagine) space and onwards. Especially scary when you see a family of four clinging on to one motorbike.
A good few guys held us up with banter arund Delhi. I think partly because Ross seems to involuntarily nod his head even when we he is saying "no thanks"
Trying to cross the road at night was a frightening ordeal. Traffic here is crazy enough. That plus darkness and only some headlights - bloddy impossible. Follow locals, trying not to grab on to them in fear is your best bet.
Old Delhi was twice as chaotic. Motorbikes parked over sleeping dogs, cows pulling carts, 25 ppl piled into an open top van, men carrying fridges and wardrobes on their heads, one stall owner set up outside a urinal trying to coax us over.
Frantic hectic caoticmanic hustling bustling but charming all the same
