Ross and Gabs Travels
Monday 13th August to Sunday August 19th
Another 179kms along the Gregory Highway to Charters Towers which is 134kms west of Townsville
The days here are nice and warm 28c today. Cool and comfy in shorts etc.
In this park they believe in the comfort of the guests. very clean and spacious amenities with lovely big sites, not cramped up next to your neighbour.
We like it here so much we booked in for seven days of rest and relaxation. Reading books and the paper. Playing around on the computer, having a snooze, doing a little shopping and a small amount of sight seeing. As we have been here before, its more about chilling out than seeing the sights.
We also met some lovely people here so we had Happy Hour for a few nights. They left today, which is probably just as well!!!
Charters Towers was a gold mining town until 1917 and many of the buildings here are very old and very beautifully restored.so it is a beautiful town to be in as you can see by some of the attached photos.
We had originally thought that we might take a look at the west coast, but it is so large with so much to see that we will concentrate on that next year, so this year we will take a good look at the east coast. We are going to head up to Cooktown which is as far on the north east coast as the bitumen road goes and then we will head down the coast slowly as far as the Sunshine Coast and from there, well, who knows?
We left Charters Towers this morning Monday the 20th August, with some regrets, as we feel rested and quite at home here, but onward and upward we go to our next stop Rollingstone, about 40kms past Townsville.
