Today we went back to Kingman so we didn't miss out any of Route 66 instead of going straight to Los Angeles as our tour package suggested. We overslept this morning. It seems the excitement of Vegas was all too much for some people!
Got on our way later than we would've liked but we had to have pancakes for breakfast before we left. They were amazing!
Our first stop today was the Hoover Dam. We decided to go on the guided tour which showed us one of the tunnels that fed the turbines first. We then went to the generator room where 8 massive generators are spun by the water from the lake to produce power for Nevada, Arizona and California. There are 7 more generators on the other side of the dam. In total, the Hoover Dam sends power to 7 states.
It's an absolutely amazing piece of engineering and construction. Once again, no matter how many pictures you take, you can't show the size of the Dam.
We drove through McConnico and Oatman and came to the most amazing scenery and roads we found on our trip. We found the desert.
The views throught the desert were absolutely amazing and the roads were absolutely incredible. That was probably the most iconic part of Route 66. To top it off, as we were about to leave Arizona, Life is a Highway came on the radio. For those who don't know, that's the song we walked out of our wedding ceremony to. Absolutely perfect.
As we drove into California, the light started to fade. The sunset was once again amazing. As it was now dark, we decided we would hop back on the Interstate to LA and drive back out to do the last 100 miles or so of our trip in the morning so that we could actually see California.
