(Stupid website only posted half my entry-heres the rest of it) I-to-i (our volunteering company) obviously know what they're doing (ahem).  So back to our day, we finish building at 10.30, apart from on Thursday and fridays when we help out with the turtles or with the beach. The beach by the way is gorgeous, palm trees, white sands and colourful fishing boats. We get a break from 10.30 til 3 (i know, its not easy volunteering) in which time we plan lessons for 3 o clock. This is a lot harder then i thought! To be fair i have quite a difficult class of about 5 , 3 girls and 2 boys. Theyre about 11- 15 but they know hardly any english so are the slowest of all the kids. I've got to work out some kind of syllabus for them and just start again, but its difficult. At the moment i'm just going to start off getting them to know alphabet and numbers reaally well then get them to put together words so they can learn how to read. However difficult they are they're sweeties, the four that normally come are called Newan, Dinesh, Nayomi and Nasantha. They're not the emotionally torn, destroyed kids you would expect, they can be brats, but they are really affectionate and get really into the lessons. Until about 4 when they completely lose concentration, so we struggle on til 20 past then play volleyball and stuff til 5. Then we sit on the beach or bum about til 6.30. On two days we have released baby turtles into the sea which is amazing, theyre so cute and they just waddle into the waves instinctively, then come back to the same beach to lay their eggs. So cool. The other turtles in the sanctuary are lovely, theres one called Stevie who was harmed by the tsunami and is blind (geddit, stevie wonder). Me and laura sat on the beach watching the sunset on thursday and this couple came and talked to us. They were so adorable, they had been married a month and they were all giggly and sweet and in love, but he lived in colombo and she in kosgoda so he comes down to visit, but her mum wont let him stay over! Anyway we're hopefully going to her birthday party next month that'll be fun. There;s also this dwarf man that walks around the beach whos really friendly but doesnt speak english and doesnt even ask for money!! Everyones just so lovely and friendly. But, oh god, yesterday i got stalked for a while. I was just innocently lying there reading when this man just came up and stood there talking for ages, well i was friendly at first but then got quite annoyed as he wouldnt leave or take the hint, well he eventually pronounced his love for me and proposed!!! It was quite funny and scary at the same time as he got really upset when i declined and ran away, after making up some rubbish about being engaged at home. I'm quite scared of seeing him today and he's also said he's coming to see me in Kosgoda. I'll have to get Dudders to protect me. Anyway, i cant believe how much im rambling, 6.30 is dinner time where we all sit round eating AMAZING curry with our hands- no knives and forks! Can't wait to get home and start eating roast dinner with my hands with the excuse of cutlery being against my culture. We all sit up talking for a while then head back to our house in the pitch dark, called the tree house coz it has a tree growing through it and is in a lovely jungly patch, saw a snake yesterday and loads of cockroaches in the bathroom, yummy. So that is our day in the week. Hikkaduwa has been a great weekend, got rather pink yesterday with some attractive bikini 'tan' lines, and attempted to go surfing, failing miserably with scary massive waves dragging me under with loads of pro surfers going woosh woosh woosh in the big waves, its fine actualy, didint look like an idiot at all. So yes, that is the general idea of what i am up to, very very jumbled and not very well written and loads left out but i hope you enjoy it. I will put up some photos soon but the internet is very slow. I am missing you all (kind of), lots of love xxxxx
