On this part of our travels i am alone, as Rosie stayed on in cairns then jumped down to Melbourne.
Gettin up early after a heavy night, i fly to Alice springs feeling a little bit worst for wares!! arriving in alice i check into a really nice little hostel called Haven. after this i have a quick wander round the town, which is a very random place i must say!! get an early night as tomorrow is an early start!!
as i said up at 5.30 to catch the bus at 6am!! its about a 5 hour drive to ayres rock (300 miles or so) but we stop along the way so its not to bad. We stay at a campsite in the town of Yulara which is the only permenant settlement in the area. Its not at all what i expected, as there are permenant tents and a kitchen or sorts along with a fridge! anyways im not complaining, it meant we could chill the beers!! after lunch we drive to a place called Kata Tjuta or as you might know it, The Olgas. its an absolutlely amzing place! 36 huge domes create massice rock formations that rise up from the ground!! we take a 3km walk called Valley of the winds and come across some amazing views along the way. after this we drive back to Uluru (ayres rock) and watch the sun set over it! truly amazing to watch!! back to camp and theres the option to sleep in tents or under the stars! i choose the latter and grad by sleeping bags and find a nice patch of sand! the stars here were soo clear as there is nothing to pollute it for miles around!!
up the next day at 4.30am!! we drive back to Uluru to catch the sunrise!! just as amazing as sunset!! next we take a walk around the base of the rock and try and comprehend the size of the thing!! its massive!! after this its back on the bus, and another 4 hour drive to Kings Canyon, again we set up camp and fall asleep under the stars!
for the 3rd day in a row its an early start as we drive to the canyon. after being initially unimpressived as i've seen the grand canyon, after a very steep climb to the top, all started to become clear! this place was trurly amazing!! rock formations like nothing you've ever seen and views to die for, it was easily if not more impressive than Uluru!! after an exhausting 3 hour trek it was back on the bus and time to pass out!! on our drive back to alice springs we get stuck in some soft sand and have to get towed out!! waiting for an hour in the desert for help in 35 degrees is no fun!! back at alice its drinks with mates from the trip then back to bed!
the next day i fly to melbourne where my adventures continue!
