Rosie and Joe in South America
We are now back in cusco from going on the inca Trail. f***ing amazing. It started off with a bus journey to the starting point and the purchase of a sterdy bamboo walking stick. Headed off with great enthuisiasm and the first day went by fairly quickly. Weather was ok but fairly cloudy. The second day was the hardest with hours of uphill climbing at 4000 metres above sea level. It was a pretty wet day and the second pass, the highest, was freezing and practically snowing! The only slight disappointment was that the sun gate was closed due to a land slide so we couldn't complete the treck on the last day. The third day was supossed to be just three hours walking but we had to continue after lunch down to the town of Aguas Calientes, just below Machu Pichu. We stayed tjhe night on a restaurant floor after a blissfull trip to the hot springs in the town. We, fairly foolishly, went out drinking that night where you could buy caiprinia cocktails for about 50p. Macchu pichu itself was amazing as was the timing of my battery in my camera running out, directly after taking my first picture of the sun rise over the ruins. The whole trip was brilliant, a great company, guide, food, group and weather at least for the last day,. Now we are resting and in a couple of days going to a town called Arequipa and might do a three day easy hike down the worlds second largest canyon, deeper than the gran Canyon.
