Rosie and Joe in South America
Hey, got to La Paz this morning. Mad city, not particualarly nice but havent seen much of it yet. There are hundreds of market stalls selling dried Llama foeti (how the hell do you spell that?) ie, unborn babies they are proper nasty, they also have whole dried frogs and loads of unidentifiable stuffed animals all used for medicinal purposes (aparantly).
Travelled here from Copacobana, a really cool town on Lago Titicaca, very hippy. We caught a boat across to the Isla Del Sol which is an absoloubtly gorgeous island. After waiting for an hour for three soups and three spaghetti's (which eventually all came together, staters and mains!) in a tiny run down restaraunt we set off on a 6 hour hike around the whole island. Slightly nerve racking as we knew we might not get back before dark. But we did it. We walked up and down hills, through Inca ruins and around small villages where each and every house (made out of mud bricks, mostly) grew it's own crops and kept pigs, cows, bulls, sheep and donkey's in thier back gardens.
Caught the boat back at 10.30 the next morning and had a chilled day in Copacobana, watched Arsenal win the first leg of the semi final and sat out in the sun.
The weather is gorgoeous at the moment and we are loving it.
So here we are in one of the highest cities in the world praying that the altitude sickness wont kick in again and eating three course meals for 80 pence!!!
Going to go on a three day treck by our selves into the Yungas, Bolivian rainforest, on saturday and stay in Coroico for a few days.
Hope all is well back home. xxxxxxxxx rosa y jose
