During the first week of island life i did my open water scuba diving course. Breathing underwater felt so wierd at first, but once you get used to it its actually really easy, all you have to remember is to not hold your breath while ascending as your lungs can explode & remember to equalise your ears otherwise your eardrum will explode ! i was doing about 2 dives a day which was pretty intense, but also amazing because every dive you just saw so much ! the coral reefs are unbelieveable, & even when we were just doing skills on the sandy bottom then loads of fish were just swarming round us !
One of the main jobs for our turtle conservation was to do a beach cleanup everyday. This basically involved going along the beach & pickig up any rubbish & recording it. Kinda got a bit boring, but we did find some cool stuff like an action man & other random toys ! The other main thing we were doing was turtle watch. This was like a rotation shift thing during the night, where you had to stay up for a few hours incase any turtles came onto the beach. The pregnant turtles that come up are absolutely huge ! But they take around 3 hours to lay their nest, which can get a bit annoying, especially when its like 3am & they keep flicking you with sand ! But we would have to wait untill they have finished laying & gone back to the sea so we could measure their tracks & stuff.
(ran out of time on the internet as got distracted by msn, but will continue asap !)
