After a fantastic couple of days in New Orleans, we briefly contemplated spending another night in our amazing boutique hotel in the French Quarter, in order to sample some more Jambalaya and Jazz. But this would've meant missing out Tennessee altogether.
A trip to Nashville won the day, however, as we realised that it would then be a 24 hour bus journey, the next day, to get to Chicago from the party city of New Orleans if we were to stay on schedule and meet our hosts Steve and Sarah in the windy city. It turned out to be a good choice, as we found the famous southern hospitality very much to our liking, even if the food was nowhere near as good as the creole taste sensation found in New Orleans.
As Tennessee is 'all about the music, man', we got some much needed sleep through the afternoon and then headed downtown to BB King's Blues Club in the evening to see a very good local band, while trying some of the barbecue food that the area supposedly specialises in. While we had a great time watching the band and sampling the local beer, the food was unfortunately fairly shoddy, as we also had the misfortune to try some more barbecued muck the following night. We should have stayed in New Orleans!
We had better luck the next day, though, as we headed down to the farmer's market and ate some real food in a Carribean cafe. We were also adopted by the family running the restaurant, who loved our British accents, and proceeded to spend the rest of the afternoon in there having free ice tea refills and using their laptop to surf the web. We knew there was a reason we came here.
