Hi everyone, Well after 3 months in Sydney i have finally moved on. I have to admit though i was really sad to leave! I had made some really good friends there and would love to go back one day!
The Cafe Sydney Christmas party was a brilliant night, one of the best i have had over here! There is over 100 staff that work there and every single one of them has a unique personality, from the ultra camp supervisors to the 'I must look as manly as possible' bar men everyone was there and having a laugh, it was definatly a good end to my 3 months in Sydney and one i will remember for a very long time (apart from the last few hours of the night cause i still cant remember what happened!).
I decided that instead of getting a 1 hour flight to Melbourne i would book myself on an 'Oz Experience' bus that took 4 days! My mate from work, Pete, was doing the same thing so we decided to go together. The tour is designed to show you some of the interesting sights between Sydney and Melbourne. It was definatly the right decision!
We had to catch the bus from the middle of Sydney at 7am and when we got there we found that instead of the usual 20 or so people on the tour there was only 6 on ours! This was fine by me as we got more of a free choice on what we wanted to do and the added bonus of loads of room on the bus!!!
The first day of the tour took us to the Australian capital of Camberra. The city is purposely built to be the capital, with all the roads pointing you to the center and the Parliament house! Its a nice city but i wouldnt want to stay there any longer than a day or 2! We first went to the war museum had a quick look round there and then we went to the old parliament house. It was quite a smart building and because we were a small group we decided to have a look round inside. It was quite interesting to see where the old prime ministers used to work and do there day to day business. We went into the Senate and there was a tour guide doing his stuff so we sat down and listened to him, He was a crazy old man called George and with out meaning to he had us in stitches talking about old politicians and normally boring stuff! He was a legend!!!
After our strange encounter with 'crazy' George we went to the new Paliament house which was situated just behind the old one. This building was built into the hill and was massive, you could see why they had grown out of the old one! We spent a couple of hours looking round there then went on to Jindabyne where we were to spend the night.
The next day the 5 lads in our group wanted to go to the top of mount Kosciuszko (the highest point in Australia) so we hired out some mountain bikes, put them in the back of the bus and drove most of the way up the mountain. Ha ha this is true, it was a long way up!!! When we got almost to the top we stopped and got our bikes out the bus! We still had an 18k round trip to cycle to get to the top so it wasnt that easy!!! The 5 of us set off into the mountains whilst our tour guide took Charlotte (the only girl on our trip) for a mountain walk. After about 5 minutes cycling with a steady incline i was starting to worry, cause my fitness isnt the best, but when i looked round the 2 canadian guys were miles behind with one of them, John, really struggling. This made me feel a whole lot better!!! So we stopped to wait for them then carried on. After another 5 minutes the same was happening with John well behind, we waited again and John decided he couldnt carry on and wanted to go back! My initial thought was "What a woose!" and it was at that point i knew this mountain wasnt gonna beat me! We had only been going 10 minutes up a very small hill and we had lost one already! We carried on and had a small downhill part before we hit the really steep climb. This was an absolute killer, everytime i thought i was getting near the top i would go round a corner and see another massive climb to do! It was then that i thought John was probably the smart one out of us all!!! Anyway we all carried on and got as far as we were allowed to go by bike then walked the rest to the summit. I have to say it was one of the most satisfying things i have ever done! To see the views from the top of the whole of Australia knowing i had worked my nuts off to get there was a great feeling! I would definatly recommend it to anyone! And to top it all off we got to ride down the mountain at record speeds, im sure at one point i over took a boeing 747 flying past!!!! Ha ha
Once we had had lunch and got back on the bus our tour guide, Joel, was asking us all what we wanted to do that afternoon. Did we all want to go watersking or something like that. We all decided that a nice leisurly drive along Snowy river toward our hostal was the best plan as we were all knackered! Along the way we stopped for a swim in the river but didnt stay in long cause to me it looked like there could have been crocadiles, snakes or anything in there! Joel was adement there was nothing to worry about but you know what these Aussies are like, the odd snake bite or crocadile indused flesh wound never hurt anyone!!!
We eventually got to our hostel which was in the middle of nowhere, with no phone signal, T.V. or what seemed like any connection with the world. It was a real hippy farm with a 'meditation' temple and and all that jazz. Some people stay there for weeks but its not a place i would like to live! We had our dinner(Vegitarian of course) and went to play table tennis. Unfortunatly we couldnt get on the table cause all these old hippys were watching some 'holy' video on one of there lap tops! So we gave them an hour or so then decided to go and play anyway, our point being that it was supposed be a place without T.V.'s!!!! They were pretty much finished anyway so we didnt disturb them too much!!!
After our 'relaxing' night in the middle of knowhere (which by the way i got woken up at 3.35am by a small earthquake, seriously!) we went to ninety mile beach for a couple of hours and on to a winery for some wine tasting and some lunch. From there we had a walk round a small rainforest and onto our final night of our trip at a caravan site in a place called Ford. We had our dinner and polished off a few beers and some wine we bought from the winery then straight to bed as we had another early start the next day!
We left the caravan park early and stopped off at this old airfield where there were hundreds of wild Kangaroos hopping about! We stayed there for about an hour then went for another walk up and over this small mountain to get some good views of the south coast! From here we walked down to a small beach called 'squeeky beach'. On our way down there we came across a 'brown' snake which i am told are very dangerous, so for the rest of the walk the 6 of us had our heads down keeping an eye out for any more 'moving sticks'!!!
By that point it was time to do our final bus journey into Melbourne. That night all the lads from our bus went out on the piss in the hostel and had a good night!
I have been in Melbourne about a week and a half now and have found somewhere to live in a suburb called Malvern. Its about a 15 minute train ride into the city and a 10 minute tram ride to St Kilda beach. The guy who owns the house still lives here at the moment whilst he cleans it up. Its quite old fashoned with pictures of Jesus on the walls but its a cool house! I had to laugh the first night i stayed here because it really felt like i was staying at my nans house!!! I also live with Pete, 2 young Canadian girls (Whitney and Chelsea) and 2 dutch girls but i havent spoken to them yet as they only moved in yesterday!
Anyway thats where im upto at the moment, havent got a job yet but am sort of looking! Hope everyone is well and i will see you all soon (I only have 4 months left and its flying by!) Take care.
