G,day Everyone!
Well we have just got back from sailing around the whitsundays, which was amazing! When we booked our trip we decided to go for a smaller sail boat rather than the big party catamaran, this proved to be a very good decision because the weather wasnt that good so we got to do some real sailing! The first day was really choppy and with us all being a bit hungover there was a few white faces around! Jane had to sit at the part of the boat that was safest to be sick from but made a miraculous recovery and never looked back after that! However there was one person that didnt make such a recovery and did have to say hello to huey! Me! Yes me, i was the only one out of us all that was sick on the whole trip! I was gutted! 4 girls and 3 blokes and i was the only one! I felt a hell of alot better after though!!!!!
So after a dodgy start, we went to Border island where we sat on the beach for a couple of hours (we were the only ones there) and went for a walk to the top of the hills. It was about 6pm when we got back onto Iceberg (the name of our boat). The skipper had set out some snacks for us so we sat on the back of the boat, with a few beers, watched the sun set and waited for Beano to cook our dinner! Couldnt help thinking "this is the life"!!!!
The next day the weather still wasnt great but it was alright to go snorkeling, it took a few mouth fulls of sea water to get me used to it and once i did the sights of the great barrier reef were something else!!! After this we decided to move on so we got the sails up (and rain coats on) and sailed to whitehaven beach on the Whitsunday island. Whitehaven beach is unbelievable the pictures and postcards you see just dont do it justice. The sand feels and looks just like flour. By this point the weather was a bit better but still very windy, so we got the kites out. First i started on the 2 meter stunt kite which was good fun then Beano got out the 4 meter kite which, judging by the way it was pulling Beano all over the beach, looked even more fun. So i started to fly the big kite and it wasnt long until it was flying me, sending me flying arse over tit a couple of times before i decided enough was enough! Great fun though!!!
By the time we got back to the boat it was getting dark again, Matt (our skipper) gave us 2 options. We could either stay where we were for the night or sail round to Hook passage (in the dark) and stay there which meant we could get another snorkel or island walk in before we had to head back to the marina, we chose the second option! Sailing in the dark with a few beers, music blaring and good company was one of the highlights of my whole oz trip so far, it was so chilled out!!!!
Our last day we all got up about 9am had breakfast and got sorted. Some of us wanted to do another snorkel but i wanted to have a look around hook Island. So i went for a bit of a 'bush walk' with Alexa (ze geman girl) and (Jackob, Canadian guy) and found a couple of other beaches. It was now about 1130am and time to head back, We took a slow sail back to the marina and got back about 4pm. Matt had aranged a table for us all at 'Beaches' that night. It also happened to be Matts birthday so we all went out and had a meal and a few beers. I tried Kangaroo steak which was really nice except for the fact i kept thinking that i was eating 'Skippy'!!!!
All in all the trip was brilliant and i hope you enjoy all the photos! See ya soon! Adam x
