HAMISH: Our first morning at Tom's place in Dechmont. I felt SICK!!! BLAAAAAAAAH. Lots of sneezes, nose running, and coughing. The first thing we did was go over to Linlithgow for more medicine for coughing, and some Zovirax. Then Mum took us up to Linlithgow Palace. It was big, It had a fountain in the middle (you can see that in our pictures when we download that lot - will do that shortly) that the King used to have running with red wine. Quick - take out the wine glass or the old drink bottle, he he he he. We climbed up to the top and looked at the view, and found a lake we hadnt spotted behind the castle.
Back to the car, a sandwich then off to find the Scottish Seabird Centre at North Berwick. I just lay about in the back feeling BLAH. The picture above is the seabird centre. North Berwick is a mix of Pounawea and Kaka Point with lots of old houses. Its the sort of place people go to for their weekends and holidays. Margo had told us to look for Luca's icecream in Musselbrough as we came back, but we didnt have to because they had a tiny wee truck thingy parked right outside te Seabird Centre so we got a nice strawberry icecream.
NGAIRE: Steina and I were a little dissapointed because the puffins had heard we were coming, and had decided to migrate before we got there. So no puffins to check out on the live cameras. Smart idea - the Centre has cameras set up on the Isle of May, Bass Rock, and in several other places and you can operate the cameras from the centre. You can swivel them around 360 degrees to look and what you want, then zoom in on what you have found. Great fun. But no puffins. :o( However, their small cinema was showing 10 minute film clips, and sitting in there was a good plan for Hamish so we watched two puffin films and one on the sea life in general. After that we headed for the car - a nice walk along the sea front to get to where we had parked, eating our icecreams - then off with Hamish flopped in the back. We flagged going to the Aviation Museum as Hamish really wasnt well enough and headed in the direction of Tantallon Castle instead. Arrived there a bit to late to go around it as they were closing earlier than we thought but we did get to see it as we approached. Slight panic when we got there, because I couldnt find our Historic Places family pass - Hunted high and low through the car and my wallet - even rang back to Linlithgow Palace in case I had left it there, which I hadnt as it turned out when I found it inside the coin compartment of my wallet. That will teach me for not putting it in the card section of the wallet where it should have been. Walter.
Back to Tom's for tea - we made scrambled eggs and tomatoes on toast, and Hamish dosed up on medicine and straight to bed.
