Day 3 - 5.30am start today. The worst part of that? We had to wake the lovely Canadian girls who were sharing our hostel dorm. They gave us some Czech money that they no longer needed and were chatting away like old friends. We liked them. Katie left them a thank you for the money/sorry for waking you note.
7hr journey from Amsterdam to Berlin. Think we got cabin fever. After we all had a nap and mid nap snacks, caught up with our diaries and made a trip to the train cafe for tea, the journey went to our heads. Everything became hilarious and we all got giggle attacks. Each station name was hysterical and the majority of them ended in 'fahrt'. Immature and sleep deprived, we finally arrived at Berlin.
What a stunning place.
We spent the afternoon wandering round and saw the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, holocaust memorials, Potsdam Plaza an Checkpoint Charlie. Walking along sections of the wall was unbelievable, you an still see bullet holes in certain places. This city is amazing, I have fallen in love with it. What I love most? Bratwurst. Dear lord I didn't half stuff my face. I shall certainly be seeking that out again when we come back here on Monday. After an epic hike back we arrived back at the station. Or spaceship. I'm not quite sure what this building is. All I know is the sleeper train to Malmoö with the cushette we have been so excited about is waiting here for us.
Oh no. This is not what we expected. As I type I am lying on the top of a triple bunk bed with Katie on the bunk opposite me. The cabin is 2metres wide (no exaggeration) and my bag is at the foot of my bunk so I am squished above it, trying not to fall off. Dee and Sarah have closed up the middle bed below me and are both sat on the bottom bunk. This is not the comfy Hogwarts Express style cushette we imagined. Now to make it worse, two men have joined our cabin party and have the two beds below Katie. Even more worse? We have attempted to translate the train announcements and got the words 'passport check' '2am' and 'ferry crossing'.
Don't think I'll be sleeping tonight then.
We knew it wouldn't be all plain sailing, think we'll just get seats for the return journey on Sunday. Hurry up Sweden.
Ps. Don't worry Mum. I don't think the men are murderers. I've stared at one of them for a bit and he doesn't look shifty.
