So I had a fantastic time in Byron Bay - I ended up staying a week as opposed to the planned 4 days because I liked it so much. I spent the week pretty much lazing on the beach and at the Arts Factory. I hired a bike one day and went for a cycle to the Lighthouse. I just generally had a great time!
Then it was off to Surfers Paradise on the Oz Experience bus. I spent 3 nights in Surfers. It's a strange place because it's a huge high-rise built up city but it's on the beach. I mean literally, you can walk out of a skyscraper go about 20 metres and be on the beach.
Whilst in Surfers, I went to a theme park with Jude (as in Judith) who I met on the bus. That was awesome! The rollercoasters were great (even so, they weren't as good as Alton Towers but that's hard to beat). We also hand fed Kangeroos in the wildlife area and got to cuddle a Koala bear. they are so cute.
I went out for a two nights in Surfers Paradise. It's got a big nightlife scene so we found some good bars/clubs.
I'm now in Brisbane having stepped off my last Oz Experience bus on Friday evening.
I went to the Art Gallery and saw their Andy Warhol visiting collection, which was great. Nice to see the Maralyn Monroe pics and the condensed soup up close.
Me and Katie (also from the bus) went to see an AFL (australian football league) match on saturday night. It's like rugby sort of except that there's four posts at each end so you can score either 6 or 1 point for a kick. Not sure what the rules are - it was very confusing but anyway Sydney Swans beat the Brisbane Lions something like 81-66 I think. Interesting to see the national sport in action.
Yesterday I went to North Stradbroke Island which is just off the coast about an hour or so from Bisbane. It was great to see the Island but it rained solidly all day (the first rain in ages - the weather has been great) so I couldn't sit on the beach really, but I had good fun anyway.
So today it's goodbye to Australia, hello Singapore! My flight leaves at 11.45pm and lands 5.45am tomorrow morning. Ouch.
