So here I am in Rotorua!
I had a good time in Auckland, I did a bungy jump off Auckland Harbour Bridge which was amazing! the strangest feeling in the world. wow.
I also went up the Auckland Sky Tower and went to the museum which has a great Maori exhibit. ( I also managed to find a 24 hour Irish bar which was pretty fun at 5am).
Leaving Auckland on Weds 13th Feb, I was on the Kiwi Experience bus headed for Mercury Bay. We stopped during the day at a beach town called Hahei which was just stunning! From there I was able to do a nice walk up the the hill top to get a view of the famous Cathedral Cove, equally stunning. The weather was great - sooo hot and sunny.
After Hahei, we went on to Whitianga where we stayed for the night in a lovely sea side hostel.
The next day we moved on to Rotorua, stopping at Karangahake Gorge on the way for a nice walk through a km long tunnel.
We also visited Matamata that day which is also known now as Hobbiton - it's near where the Shire was created for the Lord of the Rings films.
When we got to Rotorua, we went on the luge (like a go kart but with no motor, going down a track on a massive hill - a bit like the one at Woodlands but not fixed to the track) which was great fun.
That eveing, we went to see the Maori village near by, which is a recreation of a traditional village where we were given a traditional song and dance show as well as the haka and a traditional hangi meal which was THE best meal i have had in ages. The show was really good and I would definately recommend it if anyone is going to Rotorua one day.
After getting back I had a good night out at the Lava Bar, of which I doin't recall too much except that I met a nice New Zealander called Chris who I was chatting to for a bit about the culture difference and how Rotorua stinks of sulphur.
Today, I woke up slightly the worse for wear but found a good way to expel that.
...
by going on the world's highest grade 5 white water rafting course near Rotorua. It was quite scary but one of the best things I have ever done! and all for about 25 pounds! cheap.
I have met more people in just the last few days than in my last year at college. everyone here is so laid back and all are aged 18-30 and know how to have fun!
Kiwi Experience is undoubtedly one of the best ways to meet people.
Tomorrow I hope to have a go at Zorbing and to have a look at the geo thermal parks. Sunday I will either go rafting again or mountain biking. Monday I am due to go on to Waitomo.
