Day 2 in London. We have the morning here and then a flight to Reykjavik in Iceland. So in continuum with the tradition of the running tour, I have half a day to show Chris the rest of London. Tube into Victoria and leave the bigger bags at the station. Then walk to Buckingham Palace via Grosvenor Place and the Royal Mews. Many touristy happy snaps, but we saved our dignity and did not get a photo with a Bobby. We'll save our dignity for Santa in Finland. But we got lots of pictures and walked across Green Park and saw Charlie and Camilla's little place and Billy and Cates place next door. We followed along Green Park towards the Hyde Park Gate corner. We walked through Hyde Park and had a full English breakfast at the Serpentine Cafe. Chris was distracted by the 20 hands tall horses and nearly trod is there poo. Got to love the English aristocracy leaving their animal s*** for the colonial scum to clean up. Back to the breakfast ..... Well we drank coffee so not strictly a full English. Then I had a treat for Chris.
Chris is a horse lover so I wanted to show him an often missed statue in London. There are of course many thousands of statues of soldiers etc on horse back all over London, but if you head for Marble Arch, there is a unique bronze horse head sculpture that many visitors miss in their whirlwind tours. And this was that sculpture. I think Chris was impressed.
However time was running out so we caught a London black cab back to Victoria station and had a great driver who sparked up a really fun conversation. Into the stations and onto the Gatwick Express to Gatwick Airport and the connection train to North Terminal for our flight to Iceland to experience some real cold.
Write again in a new sunrise or sunset which will be the same thing considering how far north we are going.
