Beautiful, amazing, friendly, great weather, awesome seafood are just some words I would use to describe this awesome country....
I have been so impressed with Australia and I am going to miss this place extremely.
I visited the Featherdale Wildlife Park where I was very fortunate to pet a Koala Bear and feed a Kangaroo from my hand, these were 2 things to tick off my 'things to do while travelling' list. I really enjoyed seeing all the various animals they have there, to see a Tasmanian Devil up close was awesome and yup, they sure do move around a lot lol. I saw the bird that's called the Gullah, whenever I hear that birds name it always reminds me of Alf from Home and Away calling other characters 'You big Gullah' hahahaha
The kangaroos were so cute, there was one that was just laying down and chilling in the shade, when i went up to it to feed it, it didnt take the food and just gave me a look that said 'Dude, i'm chilling ok now leave me alone' lol. The reptilian house had some pretty scary but yet impressive looking snakes, some you only see in zoos back home in England but I was told these ones can be found in the wild and can grow up to 3 metres long, THATS BIG!!! There were talking Macau's that said hello when you said the same to them, I was laughing so much when I heard them as i've never experienced that before.
If you ever get the chance to visit this wildlife park then go!! you wont be disappointed.
Last Friday I met up with a work colleague from back home who had been travelling around New Zealand for the last 2 months and is now travelling in Oz. We went to Cargo Bar in Darling Harbour for drinks and some food, its a buzzing place although I did kind of feel sorry for the people in the Italian restaurant next door who were trying to have a nice quiet meal but then had this bar next door playing loud, kicking house music. I went to The Star casino which is an immense place, I got lost in there because its so big!! but I'm glad to have experienced another great place in Sydney, after The Star I went to the Kings Cross area. My cousins had warned me about this place as being dodgy, full of prostitues and drugs but I must admit I didnt experience any of that and found a cool club where I met a couple of Aussie guys who love English football so we sat and talked football for the next 4 hours and drank cold beer, muchos gracias Luke & Paul
I caught the first train in the morning back to Penrith, must admit i'm feeling too old now for partying all night long and after rolling in at 9am I was definitely feeling my age and slept like a log for the next 7 hours!!
That night we went out for dinner with some relatives to Harris Park. This place is a little India with loads of indian restaurants, sari shops, indian sweet shops (the gulab jaman and jalebi was some of the best i've ever eaten!!) and indian jewellers. Harris Park reminded me a lot of Leicester back home as the road we were on was very similar to Melton Road what with all the restaurants, shops and jewellers. I was advised that if you want a decent curry then Harris Park is the place to go.
Sunday was Bondi Beach day, yiippee!! this place was definitely somewhere on my 'places to visit while travelling' list and I loved it there. The beach was amazing, the sand was soft and fine, the water was nice and warm and the fish and chips tasted great. The atmosphere was relaxed, everyone had come there to just chill on the beach and soak in the rays. After visiting Bondi we went to Watsons Bay, again another beautiful place. I went to a place called The Gap which is where you walk up a little mountain to discover great views of the city, the Harbour Bridge and views out on to the Pacific Ocean. I managed to get some great pictures of the city at dusk and the views out to the Pacific Ocean will always stay with me for the rest of my life. The day ended with some great tasting gelato before heading home
So, my last week here has begun and I've been thinking a lot about how much I have enjoyed my time here. Its a shame I have to leave (all good things must come to an end!) but I will definitely be back!! I'm looking forward to going to New Zealand but will miss Australia extremely which is why i'm planning to come back next year, you just cant keep me away Oz................ thank you for having me in the meantime!
My next entry will be from Auckland so until then peeps........
Much love
Rob
