Whiskeytown Lake:
This is our second only tourist day and we decided to go to Weaverville via Whiskeytown Lake.
Hiway 299 takes you to Weaverville . En route is Whiskeytown Lake which is one of the most popular swimming spots for local residents of Redding.
It is a large lake that is also a dam sending water into the local farmland areas. It is within a national Park and is very picturesque.
Instead of having a spillway they have constructed what they call a 'glory hole' being a large bath like plug withe the top of the plug being near to the height of maximum water level for the Lake . As the water level rises above a certain point the water naturally flows into the glory hole and disperses to a local creek for distribution to the farm lands.
Weaverville :
For us who know Bethel church well, you will know that this place is the original stomping ground for Bill Johnson, Chris Vallooton and Danny Silk. It is a town that is set within a mountain community. It comprises an older section which has a lot of historic/heritage components and a section that has been developed over the last couple of decades. We went to the local Museum which was a really interesting place having memorabilia of local activities including gold mining, native Indian display and a large display of rifles all as used in the 1850s and early 1900s. From there we had lunch in a local cafe and it was really an enjoyable day.
OTHER ACTIVITIES:
This week is a bit of a rest week. We don't have any more conferences to go to and the activities that we will be involved in are mostly weekend functions at Bethel church we have had opportunities to minister to Bob and Nancy who we met while staying in Fjord Lane. We feel like we've been instrumental in getting them connected back into church life and into community through Steve & Lessley Chain's homegroup. Have also encouraged them to go to conferences and they attended the Vacaville conference with us. We've had lots of opportunities to encourage them in the things of the Lord and we feel like God has used us to bless them and motivate them in their walk. They appear to be wounded Christians having had poor church history and having been disaffected by Christians in the past. However they are in a good place for revival particularly if they continue to go to Bethel church and get involved in their activities. Bob and Nancy are on older couple in the early 70s who have not been involved in Christian activity for 30 years. It is good for us to be encouragers and connectors.
We have also connected with a young married couple Jonathan and Lindsey and their son Liam and we're hoping to meet with them over coming week to speak into their lives about marriage and relationship.
Both Carole and I are looking for opportunities wherever we are to bless others with the love of the Lord and to seek those opportunities to bless people especially if they are in need of a healing touch. As an example, we were in the chiropractor the other day (visiting there with Bob and Nancy) and in the waiting room we had the opportunity to share with a lady about some of the miracles that we have been witnessing . I was only seconds away from asking her if I could pray for her sore neck when, typical of the devil, she was called to go in for her appointment and she quickly rose to attend to her appointment. Nevertheless, the Lord uses every opportunity and we believe that we planted seeds and God will water them in due course. Our task as His disciples is not always to have to perform the miraculous, sometimes it is simply the expression of His love via a smile, a kind word, an action that demonstrates His love etc. These, we believe are seeds that we planted and that He will water. This is exactly how Jesus operated when on earth. He did not roam the earth looking to heal every single person he met. Rather, his objective was to spread the Kingdom of God wherever He went and so too this becomes our task. In addition, Jesus only did what He saw His Father doing only said only what He heard His Father saying. This also is a place where we would like to grow and become more like Him.
So there it is! Thanks again for reading our journey.
Love Rob and Carole.
