OK, well now I know what the middle of nowhere really means - no wifi. After much faffing the other day in airports, we finally arrived in Nova Scotia.
We had a great time in Washington and managed to see pretty much everything we wanted to. Abigail did an excellent job as host and we rewarded her with a steak dinner the night before we left - which was yum.
We're staying in a place called Cape Breton which is a rural place with pockets of small but very close communities. The views are brilliant. Everyone who lives here seems to own a piece of land and have their house their and live as sustainably as possible - growing own fruit, veg etc.
Hugh's Dad and Step Mum have been really welcoming. The picture is the view from their place. The Friday night we eventually made it here - we had troubles in Newark Airport thanks to the bad weather which seems to be following us around. (Yes, I know you all have very good weather, but as you know, I prefer the rain :) ).
When we did get here we were a bit tired so just stayed in and sat on the porch which an open fire and watched the stars (trying my best not to sound like a hippy) - you get a great view here when there are no clouds.
Yesterday we did a bit of a walk around and went to something called the 'Celtic Rant' in the evening. Every year they have this festival which goes on for a little while, from what I can tell, basically everyone gets pissed and listens to folk music. We went to a warm up event last night and it was great. After a few drinks and and live music, as you can appreciate, the temptation to get up and dance was overwhelming, however I bottled up my natural instincts and behaved.
The night continued though and we evenutally made it to bed at about 4am, hence my late in the day post now. We're just about to have breakfast/lunch before heading off on a massive walk (which I need) to get the car before getting back to watch some NFL.
Fun times, although we're not quite sure how we're going to fill the rest of our time here. There's a treck you can do which takes all day and includes a stop at a whiskey distillery, I'm sure that will happen. I also enjoy going on this little boat we have to do to go 100ft and get on the island. That's pretty funny and I hope to do that again too.
Anywho, time to go. We do have access to the internet, it's just not as instant as I've been used to so I'll keep checking. Speak soon.
