I just read last night that in 1948, Earl Shafer was the first to hike the full length of the AT end to end and since then, only about 4,000 others have thru hiked the trail in a single summer. Over the past couple months I've gotten to know a little about two of those special few.
I'm proud to know you guys.

Hi guys! Just got back from camping at our friends farm in North Carolina. Not quite as daring as your adventure, but lots of fun. Wow, you did it---you really did it! What an experience!! I can't imagine what it's like to come back to "civilization" after being "out there" for such a long time. I look forward to seeing you Rob. Congratulations to the both of you!

this is for Rob.... not sure how often you check this but we wanted to wish you a Happy, Happy Birthday darling...tomorrow, Sept. 13th... I talked to Bill this morning as he was heading out for the 100 mile wilderness... also, wanted to give you Lorraine's brother's phone number.... he lives in Rangeley.... I'm not sure if you met him when you were here... but, Lorraine said she knew he would want to hear from you & Bill....it didn't work out for Bill ... but, thought I would give it to you.... just in case
