rain,ice,snow ,and most important....the sun!!!
we had plans of going all the way through the smoky's,but after days of cold rain, then drying out we decided to get off the trail for a little rest in Gatlinburg.we hiked a litlle over 40 miles, the last 8 miles were the toughest yet,we were hiking from clingman's dome to newfound gap,and the snow on the ground kept giving-way,and we would sink up to our knees(post holing).....ugh!!! one morning we had to sit in the shelter because of the ice falling from the trees....eek!!
don't tell the ranger, but we did a little stealth camping....we snuck up to clingmans tower(6,640)to sleep, and saw an awesome sunset, moonrise, and sunrise.....made it all worth it!!!!

cress I'm glad all is well, hopefully the weather will start improving. Here in Fla it's been ideal 70's during the day and 50-60's in PM.I think of you often and am so proud of you both. can't imagine doing it myself,I like my comforts in life. Scott is into mini triathlons. He had Matt interested for awhile but matt gave up on his fourth race cause he didn't come in first. (8th out of 56-his age-12) Scott does it to watch his weight and not be like his Father, who had bad hips at age 35.take care and be safe. Cress
