Oh boy busy busy busy. It's been too long since I've posted. It's way harder to keep up with than I thought. Yosemite has my heart so far and that will be hard to describe in a blog post. The book I'm reading now and several I've previously read have countless stories of Yosemite and the High Sierras. It is so fascinating to have a clear picture of the places you read so much about. The drive to Yosemite wasn't bad bad until the usual windy, steep, intense mountains roads typical of entering these giant parks. You don't even know what you're in for until you get an hour or more inside of these parks. We had no idea until the overlook of Yosemite Valley. The fog was crazy beautiful and we were told it wasn't usually foggy like that
We made it in just in time before the visitor center closed. As always we get the scoop from the ranger, lock down camping, and admire how beautiful some of these visitor centers are. Yosemite seemed like an absolute nightmare to navigate. Too many one way roads in the actual valley. We set up camp at Upper Pines campground and made dinner. This campground was too crammed and we felt entirely too close to our neighbors even though there weren't many people there. We certainly aren't meant for neighbors. We laugh and carry on way too much for that.
After cleaning up a bit we headed to the Ahwahnee Hotel. We were told there was a decent bar there and we had high hopes of a great night out. The scene in Yosemite is pretty sweet. Tons of outdoorsy people which we love. The hotel was pretty damn cool. The gift shop was way too pricey, the bar was way too classy, and the drinks were way too expensive. When I went to the bathroom and it was full of middle age women in ball gowns and heels I knew this wasn't our spot. Christine however was really feeling it. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks. Danielle got some hot cider, Christine got a beer, and I splurged a little for an El Capitaini. It was expensive but WAY worth it. The martini glass came with a souvenir caribiner around the stem
