So we roll into Las Vegas in the same clothes that we hiked all day in and were now 4 to 5 days without a shower. Hahaha we are walking through New York New York hotel and casino with garbage bags full of clothes and smelling pretty disastrous. We had these high hopes of a shower, a bed, laundry, and a fun night out. What we actually get is booked hotels, traffic, laundry services that we cannot afford or have time for, and exhaustion sets in. It has been quite the day and last few days.
In the days since we left Boulder and the boys couches, we have visited 3 national parks in Utah, 1 state park, hiked 6 trails, did one backcountry hike/camp, slept in the van, and slept in a campground. I think you can use your imagination as to how we smell. Keep in mind that we brought a total of 2/3 pairs of pants and shirts. We also have endured long hours of driving.
Neither Christine or Danielle have ever been to Vegas before. I was just here in June so the excitement just wasn't there. Danielle isn't a fan of cities being from Long Island, and Christine is exhausted from the hike. I'm surprised we got out of our hotel at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino at all once we saw the amazing beds and bathroom.
Christine and I headed to the strip after a slice of deliciously greasy pizza. Our quick tour lasted several hours and included plenty more walking. It was definitely breaking our new rule of going to bed with the sun, but "when in rome". We saw 2 Bellagio fountain shows, walked past Caesars, went in the Venetian to look at the Gondolas, and a few other touristy things. Christine was shocked and somewhat appalled at some of the Vegas shenanigans. Before we even made it to the strip a car pulled over to let the man up front puke next to us, and a car almost ran us over that was driving on the sidewalk like it were the road. Welcome to Vegas!
We had several drinks just to feel the freedom of the no opens container policy. Short but fun night that ended with us crawling into bed shortly after 1am. We drove out first thing in the morning and headed to Cali. Not much to say about our drive through Death Valley except that it was very hot (we were glad to be in shorts now that our legs are shaved) and there was a lot if nothing. It was a gorgeous drive, but a long one. Here it is now around 7pm and were getting close to Katie, a friend of mines house in Bakersfield, CA.so very thankful that she was good enough to invite us to sleep over there. We are looking forward to pizza, laundry (finallyyyyyy) and hopefully a movie. Two nights of showers and a bed in a row will certainly spoil us :) We are on to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in the morning. . Stay tuned ;)
