We drove west towards Lake Garda, our next stop. We took the scenic route and zigzagged down the mountain side overlooking the vast lake, the largest in Italy at 50km long and 20km wide. The towns situated around the lake that we passed through were full of walkers and mountain bikers, each town connected by tunnels carved into the side of the mountains.
We arrived at Hotel Castel in Limone Sul Garda, a province famous for it's cultivation of lemons, situated on the North West shore of the lake mid-afternoon. We checked straight into the hotel, where we were asked for our passports.....four of which were sat, safe and sound, in a drawer in Cison, 200 miles away! After a few expletives, a quick call to P&O, in vain hope that we wouldn't actually need them, and a panicked call to Caesar, who kindly collected the passports, Rob and Laura turned straight back round and headed back east!
The Golf sped down Autostrade 22 at lightening pace, Laura holding on for dear life, but keeping quiet since she was the one who left the bloody passports!! Caesar and Cecilia met us just outside of Treviso, saving us 2 hours of driving, so we were soon heading back towards Lake Garda!
Meanwhile, Holly, Mum, Linda, Brian and Rose had a little picnic on the balcony of our hotel overlooking the lake, before walking down into Limone, a beautiful cobbled town, made up of narrow street and steps! Not the most pram-friendly place, they had to carry the pram the majority of the way down the steep streets and down onto the promenade. Brian got chatting to Sabrina, an Italian boat tour vendor, who offered to take him and Rob for a boys only (Brian's words!) ride in her boat, at a special price of €30!! But Brian wasn't keen, once he realised she wasn't included in the package!
Rob and Laura arrived back in Limone about 8pm and after a much needed glass of wine headed out to have a little tour of Limone by night, with Holly. We sampled the local food at a small restaurant near to the water, accompanied by a taster of the local Limoncello, which was delicious! Mum, who was babysitting Rose for the night, and Linda and Brian enjoyed a picnic on their balconies with plenty of wine, overlooking beautiful views of Lake Garda.
After breakfast, the next morning, we all took a stroll into the town to buy some of the local olive oil (which is apparently some if the best in Italy, according to Cecilia) and pottery as souvenirs, before leaving for our next destination.
