What a great way to spend Boxing Day - certainly not at the sales but wandering around Hyde Park enjoying their Winter Wonderland carnival.
We met Chelsea and Nick at East Croydon station Saturday morning about 11. Well it was almost 12 before we managed to find each other - that's the problem when you don't have any form of communication apart from wifi. But all ended well - we found each other. Needless to say I now have a UK number as does Rach.
Winter Wonderland is an amazing array of rides, stalls, foods representing different ideas - winter, bavarian, circus, etc.
It was huge and took a long time to walk around - you could easily get lost - but we didn't. We were following a big tall man!
We all had a go at some of the rides. All of us in the Mirrored Funhouse - mirror mazes, wobbling steps, funny mirrors. Rach, Chels and Nick went on a ride that spun them round and as they spun the floor dropped away and they are left hanging by centrifugal force to the wall. Don't think I would have survived that.
We also visited the Magical Ice Kingdom, an amazing display of ice sculptures. It was freezing inside - good training for Iceland! As part of the display they had an ice slide which we all went on.
As pat of the icy experience we visited the ice bar where you get to have a drink in an ice cup. We wore big thick gloves to enable us to hold it,
Seeing as we were already in Hyde Park we decided to go and have a look at Kensington Palace. A huge walk right across the Park and it was okay. We then had to walk all the way back but we at least got to walk through Kensington Gardens and that was pleasant. We also happened upon Royal Albert Hall which was an impressive site.
We finished up with dinner at Victoria Station before heading home.
