What a difference three days makes! It was a high of 63 degrees today. 40 degrees cooler than Tuesday! We actually felt cold.
More touristing in York today. We started out at the York Castle Museum, which has a lot of different old stuff situated in the old prison. Once done there, the women went and got tea at the famous Betty’s Tea Room while the men did the manly thing and went to the National Railway Museum. Not encouraging any gender stereotypes there…
Most of us got back together and toured the Jorvik Viking experience. About 40 years ago they were excavating to build a shopping center and came across a whole Viking settlement. They still built the shopping center and also created the experience and incorporated it into the shopping center. There is a small museum, but the centerpiece is a Disney like ride that takes you through a recreation of the settlement with its sights, sounds, and smells (including poop smells 💩). Amy and Ellie were not interested so they went shopping.
We had some time before dinner so everyone except me went up Clifford’s Tower (I had been up it when I was here in April and did not want to spend the money). It is a 1000 year old tower that is all that’s left of the old York castle.
We finally celebrated Ellie’s graduation with the family by going to nice restaurant by our place.
Tomorrow: Goodbye York, hello London
