London last day!
This morning I ran to the Westminster bridge and said goodbye to Big Ben and Parliament. I then got my sweat and savory pastries, a coffee, and found a bench at a park and relaxed. I really enjoy doing that here. It is amazing that you can find quiet places like that in this bustling city.
Our goal today was to head over to St. Paul’s Cathedral and hang out in that area. The tide was low so we got some good mudlarking in. We found some more pottery and Ellie found a part of an old shoe. We got a picnic lunch and ate it in a quiet park under all these plaques commemorating everyday people who gave their lives doing things heroic. It was another one of these unexpectedly cool things we have have found in this town.
We then spent the majority of the afternoon in the Museum of London. It traced the history of London from prehistoric times to now. It was an impressive museum with a lot of information. We were a little museumed out so we did not get as much out of it as we might have earlier in the trip.
After the the museum we took a rest on some benches and entertained ourselves by feeding some pigeons. One of the pigeons was chasing another one for romantic purposes. He was unsuccessful. It was quite amusing.
We walked around the area and checked out parts of the old wall that surrounded London and are still standing.
We took the tube back to our hotel’s neighborhood and had our last meal at a pub. It was a good and hearty last meal. We went back to our hotel, picked up our luggage, and said goodbye to Ellie. She went back to York tonight and will head home to MInneapolis on Wednesday.
Luke, Amy, and I got the tube to our new hotel near Heathrow. We have to be at the airport at 7:00 AM so we figured we would stay by the airport to make things easier.
Tomorrow: Home!
