So this week we started out with yet another fancy dress, i don't know what's wrong with these people, we've been here two weeks just, and that's two fancy dress parties already! anyway, with the theme being gods and goddesses maria and I chose to go as.......... clouds!! yep here two weeks and already the natives have seen us dressed up as is, the hulk (that looked strangely like a robbin hood look-a-like) a witch, and two puffy white clouds) our fist immpressions cannot be going well with these people!
Anyway we by now are in desperate need of our own car, turns out New Zealand is quite hilly, who knew?? so on Sunday morning we headed to a local car market! - one car took our interest immediately it was white, so maria was game for this one straight away! after having a look around it (and performing the final manly test to see if the car was good....... -the old kick the tyre test-) yep well have it! However,we did find a problem - the owner (an definite French man, came with beret and all) couldn't speak a word of the queens! After some discrete mocking on our part he didn't have a clue what we were saying, he also proposed that he knew where the place 'B' was after us quoting -'this is great - it will get us from A to B'
We bought the car and our true travels of New Zealand could now start!
The very next day we were out and about in a car with no front headlight, a radio that didn't pick up radio waves while juggling around a quarter of a million kilometres on the clock! Anyway heading to Arataki visitors centre, a great site in the rainforest overlooking the Auckland beaches, also the home to the picture frame, (see pictures) although it was rainy, still had a great time and learnt a lot!
Over the next few days we visited
-Keri Keri beach (fantastic place) though the road down is quite harsh on the car breaks!
-A visit to butterfly creak, which is a butterfly house and then on to a crocodile pen! this was just awesome - didn't know just how big crocks where until you see them in the flesh! - also rick had a run-in with a baby crock, rick won, but his dignity didn't! you might have heard the scream back in England!
-Davenport is by far the nicest place we'v seen so far! (although we have only been here 10 or so days!) a great little town over the shore from Auckland city, it gives great views of of the city and also it was the defensive point in the war so its filled with old Guns (really many stuff) great day had by all - saw the winning NZ Americas cup boat out in the water, brilliant!
For the rest of the week we filled our time preparing ourselves for a camping trip of the Coromandel the next week, I played a bit of golf and maria had a lazy day with high school the musical.
By the way (we forgot to put this in last week) - we went over to Amanda's school for her school firework night last Friday, now we're talking a nice school here, no joking this school is rich!! - 20 minute display for pupils only!
So the next week we could either be doing a few more day trips / or a camping trip around the Coromandel it all depends if this rain lifts!
