We weren't eaten by anything during the night and woke up to blistering sunshine, I was first up and headed on to the balcony and sat in the sun, it was surprisingly warm for eight in the morning, I kept shouting for the egg to get up but she wouldn't. Eventually a sleepy little lady came out onto the balcony and we sat for a while. We were planning on getting a moped out today and go round the island but due to the weather we decided to go around the pool and play it by ear. It was hot and sunny and frequent trips in the pool cooled us down to a reasonable temperature, this combined with the free coconuts that they were handing out on the beach freshly chopped down served with a sppon and a straw made it a very enjoyable morning. These lads that were getting the coconuts down were athletes and shimmied up the tree like a slightly brown Spiderman and hacked away at the trees with a big machete. The bigger lad who worked in the reception took all the glory for their efforts by handing them out. Ever encouraging of a freebie Sarah accepted the free coconut in an instant. We continued to lounge around until about 12:00 o'clock when the sun went in, we went to rent a moped for 24 hours for 200 Baht, I said 'can I rent a moped please?' 'yes no problem, but can you give us five minutes?' was the reply, 'no problems' I went to sit back in the bar, I gave it ten minutes to be safe, 'can I have a bike now please?' 'ahhh the bloke you need to see has just gone' 'very handy' 'give me five more minutes' after 30 minutes we went to get lunch on the beach as we realised the toss piece wasn't coming back. Found a nice quiet bar and both had ham and cheese baguettes, two retired couples from either Mansfield or Scunthorpe (I couldn't determine the accent) came in and Sarah and I both commended them on the epic trip away with friends as they must have been eighty plus! We then went back to the bar and asked the other bloke behind reception to rent a bike and he explained the lady we needed to speak to was not there and we should go into town as it is cheaper, we explained we were apprehensive about renting a bike from them as we heard that they tried to charge you for damage upon your return, the man behind reception said 'yes but we try to do the same here', I had to admire his honesty 'oh' was the only response I could muster for that. We went back to the pool and stayed there until about five o'clock, we then showered, with Larry (the lizard, I thought he deserved a name), he was back behind the mirror and I had become quite used to him by now, but for Sarah's sake I thought best to get rid of him. So I picked up the hose next to the toilet (I don't know why it was there either) and sprayed him. He seemed to enjoy this and just sat there and took it, if anything it made him feel welcome I think, I had to say to Sarah 'Larry's going no where I am afraid' 'who's Larry?' 'oh yeh, the lizard'. We then went for a pre dinner drink at the bar and got chatting to a couple from Colchester, the seemed nice and we said if you're about for a drink later we could possible meet up, they said they would be on the beach front a couple of bars up. We had our dinner, we both had a Thai dish mine was Pad See and Sarah had the Pad Thai, they were very nice, we finished our beer and walked back along the beach and sure enough there was the couple we had met previously, we introduced ourselves, the lad was Ed and the girl was Hannah we went to a bar with music on (this was a small resort and there were only four bars on the sea front) Ed and I had Chang whilst Sarah an Hannah had a cocktail, we then managed to persuade the owner to do us 'buckets' (strong spirits and mixers served in a bucket) for just over half the advertised price, 'got time for another?' I asked, 'oh yes' was the response. It started to rain so we moved under the bar area which was a small wooden structure with an overlapping roof all the way round, the owner who had previously served us turned up looking very wobbly on a moped with a take away, he got to the bar and was clearly very drunk. Ed then had what seemed to be a wonderful idea that as we had already spent a shed loads on drink we should challenge him to a drinking competition until he fell asleep and then do a runner, bloody ingenious I said 'three tequila please bar man' we continued to drink heavily and had control over the itunes that were playing over the sound system, there was some fairly shocking music on there. The barman didn't go down and now there were two other bar staff there at this point each taking it in turns to have a sleep on the floor behind the bar. The barman loved it he disappeared for a moment and came back with several little pots of paint, it was fluorescent body paint, Ed and I got our kit off and we all painted each other (it didn't seem gay at the time), I left Ed to it and he very kindly painted the word 'twat' on my back and drew a large penis (I liked my new friend already). We continued to dance and drink, and when it got to nearly five AM we thought it best to go to bed, of course going in the sea and the swimming pool in our pants first, Sarah joined us (in her clothes) but Hannah who hadn't been drinking did not. We crashed out in the room and was asleep possibly somewhere on the beach as that is where my memory becomes more than hazy!

Sarah I think we had two of those coconuts! Well, they were free! Then swang on a rope for a bit tied to a tree before lunch! Messy, messy night! That paint is still on our expensive camera!
