Today we decided to take a leisurely walk around the Koah Sok National Park, we walked round to Morning Mist Bungalows to check out the deal we had seen the day before, the woman behind the desk was a nightmare, I approached her and she said in a harsh, half talking half shouting voice 'YES', so I said 'I would like to enquire about this deal, pointing to it in the book' 'we don't do this any more' she replied, so we left. We walked back to our friendly bungalows, of course to walk around a Rain Forest/Jungle all day we would need a hearty hearty breakfast. Just outside the entrance to our gaff I heard a right carry on in the tree, I looked and there was a little monkey in it, a real live wild monkey. I shouted to her majesty to have a look. We got some jolly good snaps of the old chap as well. We headed for the reception bar at around 09:15 AM. Sarah ordered fried egg on toast and I went one better with fried egg and bacon on toast. It was heavenly. We then went and put on shoes and socks (the first time since arriving in Thailand and it felt weird), we had to do this as otherwise the leaches in the jungle would suck our blood. We walked around the corner to the entrance to the park (with our special pulled up socks on) and paid the 200 Baht each to get in. As we ventured down the path it was clear that this place pissed all over Sherwood Forest the trees were tall... very tall and there was bamboo everywhere, the chorus of animals ringing throughout the living landscape was incredible. We got to the first place on the map, a lovely river which was crystal clear and had rocks all around the bank, we had our swimming trunks on and went for a dip. It was refreshing, the water wasn't very deep at around four foot and you could see the bottom wherever you stood. There was a little water fall which crashed over the rocks and into the pool we swam in. We got out and dry-ish we headed back up to the main path, the path was essentially a dirt clearing in the forest which was about six foot wide, we carried on on our quest and found several more swimming spots and rock climbed across the river and sat in the middle on dry rocks, we then couldn't find the track back up to the main path, luckily (and I don't say this very often) the Germans came to our rescue, in the form of a tour group with about eight or so people on it, they pointed us in the right direction. The nice six foot path came to an end and to continue on the walk we had to climb over tree roots and up and down hills, some of it was quite treacherous and our feet slipped away from under us. We were following a designed route but it was very real jungle. The sweat was dripping of us and any sign of a pool in the river was good enough for us. The river was quite fast and many other streams and little rivers fed in to this one. We found a real deep pool which was tricky to get in to as it was down a rock and the bit of rock that was under the water was very slippy, Sarah went first and slid down the rock and splashed into the water laughing (but not as hard as me). We were deep into the jungle now and the last waterfall was 1 KM away, as it was now 14:30 we decided that 1 KM there and 1KM back would take a while up and down hills and over rocks and as it had taken over four hours to this point we turned back as we didn't want to be in the jungle at night fall. Sarah was very hot and bothered at this point and she was very ready to turn back, to be fair it was a tough adventure but I kept her morals alive by explaining (of course) that it was 'all part of the travelling experience'. The walk back didn't take long at all and we were out of there at about 16:10. We headed back to the room, my t-shirt was ringing wet through with sweat and I did most the walk back with my moobs out. It didn't feel good putting the t-shirt back on but I was pleased to see the finish line. We had a quick shower and then headed out to a bar with WIFI to check the latest with Niamh, we had a beer and saw some lovely pictures of liccle Niamh. We then pondered whether to go back to the room for a bit or to go straight for dinner (it was only 18:15) we however decided that we had deserved the early dinner and headed out for more beer and a bite to eat - we of course had prawn Phad Thai and spring rolls. Then we headed back to the bungalows again, we were just getting in the room and I needed to hang a t-shirt outside, as I came back in and switched the outside light on the power to the whole site went down. We sat there in the most pitch black I have ever seen as I looked out of our door I literally could not see my hand in front of my face, but that was good. Again the sound of the jungle was very powerful, the power remained off for around ten minutes and then fired back up again. It was very quiet and very very black. The blackest I have ever seen in my life (apart from the black hole that was at Alton Towers). As we were back in the light and the fan was back on we uploaded the photo's of the day, there were lots, all of trees. Not long after that - slumber land... bizarre dreams, very bizarre.
