Today we planned to get bikes out, so when we were showered and dressed we went on the short walk to the bike hire place, 'Hello, we would like to rent two bikes please'... nothing 'two bikes please sir' still nothing, he didn't speak a word of the queens. He made a phone call and said the only word we understood 'American?' the cheeky s***e. We then went to the station a fair walk from this hire place but the tourist information lady spoke good English, we were directed under the station to collect our bike. We had to give our passports in and now had a card that allowed us to rent bikes for up to three years, a day would be fine. We got our bike and paid the one hundred Yen for the privilege (about eighty pence). We were on the open road, I love it when a plan comes together. We followed the coast round out of Takamatsu and biked all the way round to Yashima, it wasn't Tour De France but we cycled quite a way. Took about four hours, half way round we found a 'spot' (Sarah always likes to find a spot) to eat lunch which we had bought from the supermarket, a very Japanese spread consisting of ham and mustard sandwiches and crisps. The coastal road was magnificent with a very European feeling to it but as you looked beyond the green trees there were the tropical islands which we had seen from the bridge on the way to the island. We climbed up a big hill having to push in places of course to be rewarded with a big downhill stretch, as we reached the downhill bit I was shouting to Sarah 'go on duck welly it down' she had her brakes on for most of it so I went in her slipstream pulled out and zoomed passed her, I love going down hills on bikes. Just before we reached the bottom I was going probably about twenty mph when I looked to my side and just about jumped of my bike. I was being chased by a Veloser Raptor, as I stared into its cold cold eyes after about two seconds I realised it was an ostrich, or to be precise it was three ostrich or ostrie (I don't know the plural). They were massive. I obviously turned round to take photographs with Sarah in fits of giggles, squarking 'don't let it eat the camera'. I explained to the ostrich that I would eat one of them without a second thought and that on Ely market they sold ostrich burgers, they didn't seem too bothered to be honest. We continued until we got back to Takamatsu, where we cycled for one km to the castle, this was three hundred Yen to get in so we didn't do it. We dropped the bikes off and went to the supermarket to get me some tea (pot-noodle), Sarah confirmed she did not want one. We got back to the room and got our cozzies on for the Spa, I took washing up to be done as well as there is a complementary washing machine available, I only bought one pair of trousers with me which are jeans obviously this means I have had them on every day for two weeks (this is not unusual for me) but thought I should wash them. I loaded the machine and there were two buttons in English, on and start. I pushed them and I heard water so left it and headed to the gay room. I went in the sauna first, there was one other bloke in the outside bath. I lasted the full twelve minutes in the sauna then went to get in the hot bath inside, but the naked man came inside so I went outside. Things got bad, he got out the bath and started running on the spot, then he had a shower which were by the side of the inside bath, he was sat on the little plastic stool that was in front of the mirror showering. He finally finished this bizarre naked ritual and went through to the room with the hair dryers and stuff, this is when it got really weird he put his foot up on the sink and leant forward toward his feet, it was an awkward moment in my life. I went back to the room about ten minutes before Sarah got back. I put the kettle for my pot-noodle and Sarah piped up that she wished she had got one! I couldn't believe it. I had suggested that she got one just in case, typical. I said I would go to the vending room to get her one (knowing there weren't any), so in my shorts (my jeans were in the wash!) I went to the shop to get her one. We ate pot-noodle and watched Johnathan Creek until we went to sleep about ten thirty.

Sarah I will never forget watching you bike along unaware that you were being chased! You did a funny double take! I had a lovely spa all to myself - no nakeds!
