Lima was massive compared to the cities in Bolivia and East peru we were used to so we headed to the Miraflores district, the safest and apparently nicest part of Lima. As this would be our last night with the guys before they headed up north we decided we at least needed one farewell drink in town. Unfortunately as we had been warned Monday nights in Lima are not exactly wild so after some discussion we ended up letting our cab driver take us to where he reccomended...It was not anything we could put our finger on to start with, Shelly and Margo went to the Loo and came back slightly alarmed with the looks of death they were getting from all the 'women' around the bar....then it clicked! Why were they dozens of women sitting round the place in ridiculous outfits and even more ridiculous boobs....working girls club! With a very quick downing of the drinks we were out of there leaving dave flighting off the last of them at the door! With one narrow escape under our belts we tried to head for some where a little more low key...unfortunately the taxi driver was right and while it may of been full of the dodgiest women we'd ever seen it was definately the busiest place in town...definately time to call it a night!
After saying our goodbyes to the boys as they headed for their bus up north and Rich, Shelly and Margo (the final 3) caught a cab into Lima for the day. We had been warned that Lima was not exactly 'tourist friendly' and they were not joking, it was absolute chaos! It was a massive city but had no shops or restaurants in sight, it was just a huge trading bundle of people! We walked our way up to China town where you could see anything (literally anything) from paper bails to carnival hats being pushed up the centre of the road in giant cages by little China men. Then we turned the corner to the city library where the pavements were crowded with men on type writers, apparently this was the area where locals could take any offical documents or letters they needed typing up and it would be done for them for a small charge! After a few hours wandering around the hustle and bustle we were all in agreement that Mirafloras was definately the place to be and with that we retreated to the suberbs!
Miraflores had a casino that apparently rivals Vegas which was reccomended to us and we decided that we had to give it a look so after a quick change we headed for the bright lights, and man were they bright, there was more lightbulbs in the one foyer than in the whole of Bolivia! After a quick lesson for Shelly we soon had our 40 Soles (10 pounds) budgets in hand and were playing the roulette table. It wasnt long before Rich had discovered 'if you ask you shall get'...for free!!! Free food and drink, he was delighted, our waitress wasnt quite so by the time she had brought the 3rd round of sandwitches. After a couple of hours Rich was just about out but then our luck definately changed as we managed to over double our money! In with 80, out with 180, Yippeee! So with full stomachs and pockets we made our way back!
Our final day in Lima was spent soaking up some well needed sun whilst having a picnic in the central park (much to the suprise of many of the locals, aparently sitting on the grass is not the done thing in peru!). Then after a few beverages to celebrate St Patricks day it was time to head to the airport....Argentina here we come!
