We were all so relieved to get off the bus in Cusco...not good! But after checking into our hostel which was so cosy and cool we headed out into cusco and fell in love with it instantly. The main square was bustling with people but without a lot of the mental crazyness of some other south American cities, we'd been recommended a little Irish pub in the main square and it didnt let us down. Nachos....AMAZING, all day breakfast...AMAZING, and Guiness...Dave was thrilled!
The next day was a designated 'guys and gals day', while the guys planned a day in the pub watching the football the girls planned a day of pampering and cocktails, then a mass getting ready session before a night out in Cusco! We went our seperate ways and it wasnt long before Shelly, Lauren, Margo and Rose were layed flat on the fronts down to their underwear with a peruvian women stood on the table above them! It was an interesting massage as they seemed very keen on climbing around the table rather than standing next to it, but all were in agreement that it was well needed after carrying our ridiculously sized backpacks for so many months! We then also indulged in pedicures, manicures, facials and waxing (well actually only Lauren went for the waxing and we were all pretty relieved we hadnt by the sounds of it!) after handing over our 10 pounds for all the treatments we headed out to find cocktails and lunch! The guys by this point had found their way back to the irish pub and were scoffing yummy home food delights while watching Man United win! After a few strawberry daquories we headed back to crack open a bottle and get ready for the night ahead.
The night started with every game we could cunger up, cards, darts, pool, and chess...yup even chess! Then after we'd taken full advantage of the happy hour we headed across the main square to hit 'Mama Africa', a debatable club that we thought was awesome after a 3 hour happy hour! We danced the night away and showed the south americans some signature moves (not sure they were too impressed!) and all stumbled home a little worse for wear....some more than others eh James! They next day was a VERY slow one of bagel lunches and catching up with back home.
As we'd had a pretty slow one the day before we decided it was time to get back on form and see something Inca! So we all decided we'd conduct our own city tour of the inca ruins...after jumping on a local bus out of cusco to the furthest of the ruins we began our walk back down the hill into the city seeing the sights along the way, we were all congratulating ourselves on what a great plan this had been and how we'd saved money not paying for a tour when the heavens opened, and man did they pour! So as we stood huddled under some shelter trying to stay dry in our shorts and flip flops the thunder set in....Taxi!!! After completing the last ruin on a 'vamos tour' as Dave put it we all made a dash back to the hostel for more layers! After a night of AMAZING currys....seriously good, we then headed out on a sacred valley tour...this time we'd loosened the purse strings and forked out the 6 pounds for the bus tour! We were soon to discover that 'jenny' our tour guide was going to make this a very long day with her screeching voice and loooong explainations....'jennys group this way, stick together, no picutres!!!' But the Inca sights were fantastic and even though we may have zoned out of some of the explainations we were all in agreement that they were worth a day with Jenny!
As we were all heading off early on our last day in cusco we decided to make our second to last night a big one....no more nueve personas!! We headed out on a mission to get a free drink in every place, we succeeded with colours and it wasnt long before we'd forgot the shot glasses and had opted for direct from bottle to mouth! unfortunatley it was inevitable that we were going to end up back in Mama Africa (tackiest club in Cusco!) and sure enough by 11.00 we were back there with the boys on the bar! By the end of the night Lauren had bought 3 of the street children Happy meals and Rose had got some random girl to wear a bra and sit on her shoulders...all worth it for free drinks!
Not suprisingly the next day was a bit of a slow one once again but we all headed into town for a well needed big breakfast and some last minute shopping for some more llama crap before we left Peru! Then it was time for Neuve personnas to be no more!...it was a very sad goodbye as we left two of the girls and headed to Lima with only siete personnas!
