Holas Amigos!!!!!!
Its been a while! Bet you've all been pinned to your monitors for the last 31 days waiting for my next blog (NOT). Well, whats uncle Richard been up to then? The short answer is, not as much as usual cos he's had to start working, BHHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Nevertheless iv'e managed to land just about the most cushty job ever, which should tide me over until about june time when i'll be looking to move on down the East coast towards Brisbane via the Whitsundays and Frazer Island (NICE!)
My job basically involves driving a shuttle bus (well, a transit van) between two sister hostels 4 days per week. All i have to do is a 5 minute run on every hour of my shift then I can remove my shirt and chill with the still by our swimming pool or spa tub with a lovely cup of tea whilst waiting anxiously for the next voyage (well, someone's got to do it!). For my heroic efforts I recieve free board, free food, tour for free or discounted prices and $200 per week (can't be bad). The problem I have is that now iv'e got it so nice, I'm finding it hard motivating myself to move on from Cairns, but I will.
Speaking of Cairns it's very nice. It's actually the most popular holiday destination for Aussie's because they have the best and warmest weather all year round. Even in the winter (which we're coming into now) temperatures by day still get up to 26 degrees (perfic!!!!). It certainly is a holiday place, and if I wasnt working I certainly dont think i'd be hanging around for more than a couple of weeks cos i'd be bored s***less!
Done loads of cool activities tho! White water rafting on a grade 5 river through the Daintree rainforest has been the highlight. For those of you who dont know what grade 5 water means, well basically rapids are graded 1-6. 1 being farting in the bathtub and 6 being Niagra falls! We went out on 2 person sports rafts. These things are lethal, mainly because you dont have an instructor with you, he's just standing on the rocks with a rescue rope which I didnt fancy my chances of getting hold of if i fell off! Too add to that, when you're flying off a waterfall at 60mph with nothing less than something that looks like a rubber dingy purchased from Bournmouth beach, the term "hold 10p between your arsecheeks" springs to mind". I have however lived to tell the tail, and it was amazing! I've also done loads of other cool stuff. Snorkling on the 'Great Barrier Reef' is just like putting you head in a giant fish tank (another world!) and a guided tour through the rainforest by night was incredible as you see so many more animals and insects that you never thought existed.
Anyways folks there's loads more to tell but I just cant fit it all on here so you'll have to wait till i get home. See you soon, keep in touch,
Easy(er)
Rich.
