Hello all!
Well, its been a while since my last post, but dont worry I havent forgot you all! Didnt want to bore you with the day to day drab that some people do so i'll tell you my doings in a nutshell and deal with the funky s***!
We arrived in melbourne with the intention of staying for a while and doing some random work. It didnt happen! We thought b******s and decided to stay for a month doing what all cool travelers should do, 'Chill'. I think we will be doing some work a little further down the line. Melbourne is a wicked city, quite similar to our major cities back home but generally much cleaner and so layed back its unreal! They dont have a rush hour every morning and evening, they have a 'Get to work when you want after a continental breakfast hour', INSANE!
So, during our month we've done loads. Neighbours tour and Neighbours evening of course (we are English after all!). Check out some cool photos on my photo site. We did a superb 2 day tour of the 'Great Ocean Road' in Victoria which was absolutlely superb (would reccommend our tour guide to anyone). This included so many cool sightseeing including the 12 apostles (rocks in the sea, NICE!), Rainforest, Cool beaches and a couple of slap up barbeques (which piss on anything we have back home).
Nightlife is much more chilled than we have back home but great fun. However, before you even contemplate going out you have to pop down the bottle shop and but some Goon (s*** wine, but drinkable with fish eggs in it!). You can get 5 litres for $10 which is the equivilent of about 4 pounds. LOVELY! After at least 2 litres of this you are usually well on your way to a good night and it saves you on the $7-8 dollars it costs to buy an average bar drink in the city.
Next up, the Grand Prix! I used to be a bit of an F1 guru (not so much now) but when I saw tickets for the great race were about 1/3 the price of back home I thought WHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! ("Im goin"). In a nutshell, 'Great race, lovely setting, lovely girls, lovely day'.
Football in the park was cool! About 20 lads from the hostel would regulary meet up to celebrate the great English game, and it was a good excuse to try and get a little fitness into the body. It was a sad occassion to leave actually, it's one of those places where you meet so many cool people that you dont want do leave, but you have to just say sod it and move on after a while.
At the end of the month we flew to 'Ayres Rock' (big lump in the middle of nowhere) for a couple of days. It's real cool, there is one resort in the middle of the outback which didnt have much to it, but you could certainly make use of a good couple of days. We hired a car for the day (the cheapest way of doing things), went to Ularu (Ayres Rock) in the morning and the Olgars (another red lumpy rock range) in the afternoon. The deciding factor to do it this way was when we found that if we had an Abo (Aboriginal) tour guide (at 3 times the price) he would spend 99% of the day trying to convince us the the rock was formed by a giant lizard who decided to lay its eggs there and that the crators were formed by snakes fighting with spears! (OK!!!!!!!!!)
Just when we thought the trip wouldn't get more interesting we were driving back to the lodge from the Olgars, when, there was a bus parked up in the middle of the outback with a blown out tyre. So, being the kind gentlemen we are, we stopped to help clear the debris off the road. Now, when you are walking through the outback with now a sole for miles on end the last thing you expext to find standing perfectly in the sand by the side of the road is a 'Batman' figure. Fully clothed, that looked like he hadnt been disturbed for years. CRAZY! Now when we got back that evening things got even more mental. I went to pour a glass of water from our tap, only to find a 'Red back spider' (Australias deadliest) dangling from the tap. Now i'm scared of wasps so you can imagine my reaction when i saw this 'Mother' facing me. 's***' was the first word that came to my mind and my pants! :-)
Anyways folks i''ll leave you be (and dont forget to stay in touch). You might all recieve random txts off me at some point so brace yourself's.
Easy(er)
Rich.
