24/2/10 - day 77.
up at half 8 and got a boat to another lakeside town called san pedro la laguna. as soon as i got there, the differences between here and san marcos were very obvious. one of the first things i saw when i got of the boat was a bar/restaurant called ''nicks'' so i knew i was in gringo territory. not to the extent of panajachel but much more than san marcos. there was a little information booth at the dock where i enquired about accomodation since the choice was ridiculously vast, i wanted somebody to narrow it down for me! i went to one called pinnochio's which was pretty nice and pretty cheap.
the room wasnt ready since it was only half 9 so i dumped my bag, went for breakfast and used the internet for a while. i had pancakes, yoghurt, fruit and granola and it was far too much for a human being to consume. by about half 10 i was feeling suitably sick and staggered to the nearest intenet cafe til about midday when she said the room would be ready by. it was kinda wierd cos it wasnt really a dorm, it was a room with 2 single beds in it, so i would be sharing with some other randomer. met some germans that were staying there while doing a spanish course.
went to watch the inter milan vs chelsea game that afternoon at a sports bar. watched it with a scottish guy and 2 dutch lads. none of us inter fans but all of cheerinng when they scored, united in our hatred of chelsea! i quite liked what id so far seen of san pedro. not just because it has a sports bar but its a nice setting, views not a good as san marcos in my opinion but there's something kinda cool about looking up and seeing a volcano looming over you.
finally over my breakfast, i went for food then back to the hostel where i hung out for the night with 2 israelis, 2 germans, an american and dane (who was the other person in my room). they were all really nice and it was wierd cos every one of us was travelling alone which you dont get very often. we played a rather confusing card game that one of the israelis had previously been taught by some dutch people, and went to bed about midnight.
