We arrived at the seal swim centre in Kaikora where we once again donned smelly wetsuits! Once briefed we journeyed out to find some seals and got in to swim with them, they seemed strangely unphased as they zip around below you and around you. The older ones just laze around on the surface as if they have seen it all before. It was an amazing experience that did have a few scary moments! At one point we were swimming along when 2 seals appeared swimming very fast towards us, unfortunately they forgot to brake and one of them swam straight into Nicky which, once she had got over the inital shock, was hilarious! Then towards the end the biggest seal got into the water, something that everybody seemed to notice apart from me... it swam about an inch from my nose and I was so shocked (it was twice the size of the others) that I swallowed most of the sea. It was an amazing trip and we feel very privileged to have been able to swim with them.
After this I managed to develop my badboy image further to finish off 2008 in style... I got stopped by the same policeman twice in 5 hours. Firstly for not following the interesting driving rule of always giving way to your right! Luckily they were quite good humoured and explained the rule to me in full. In the evening we had a beautiful dinner overlooking the bay and decided to keep our wine bottle for the cool label. We walked home and once again a police car pulled up next to us as we were in a no liquor zone! Once I had explained all was fine and they seemed to think that it was quite funny! All this travelling is clearly making me a little unruly!
Anyway Happy New year to you all... can't believe that we have to go back to work this year!
