Awesome. We would love to go back there and see more - the only downside was that it was hideously hot and sweaty and there were lots of nasty biting bugs, but hey, that´s what you get in the Amazon isn´t it?. We visited an animal sanctuary where we saw many monkeys of varying kinds along with some other animals that had been rescued from smugglers (Capibara, various parrots, a caimen, anaconda etc etc). Unfortunately the only animals we saw in the ´wild´as we were walking through the rainforest were many, many spiders and one spider-monkey. I think the sound of us crashing through the forest may have sent them running! We spent a morning trekking though the rainforest and learning about the different plants and trees, before walking out through a river, which was amazingly beautiful and also scary as we were up to our waists in water frequented by anacondas!! The only mode of transport available was boat, so everyday we had great trips up and down the river. On our last day we built a raft from balsa logs and floated back down the river home, only stopping to buy beer and crisps, jump off for a swim in between rapids or when we got stuck in an eddy! It was such a lovely relaxing few hours, basking in the sun and floating downstream. (All the while conscious that if we kept going it would take 4 months to reach the Atlantic, via a number of sizeable waterfalls...).
