India and Nepal 2022
We set off in the early morning sunshine in St Jean to retrace those first steps which I had taken only a few short months ago when embarking on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage.
This time I was with Alan, Martyn, Richard, Phil, Mike and Chris as we headed out up into the Pyrenees. The first leg is fairly gradual and steep and our first stop was Orisson.
From here it was upwards and onwards with spectacular views of the surrounding snow capped mountains. St Jean lay calm and serene in the valley below.
Reaching the highest point, deep snow hid the path down towards Ronscesvalles. After an enjoyable walk through the woodland glades, we arrived at our destination.
A great evening's food and wine and super accommodation in the monastery rounded off a wonderful day. Thanks Al.
Day two saw us make the journey to Zubiri. For the lads who had not experienced the Camino trail before, it was a whetting of their appetite for journeys to come.
